Turkish Delight: Hadise Tops Belgian Charts 6

Turkey’s Hadise has reached Number One in Belgium with her Eurovision entry Dum Tek Tek. It’s a milestone for the Belgian-born singer of Turkish descent whose previous hits Stir Me Up and Milk Chocolate Girl only reached the Top 5. (Apparently, you’ve got to stir up the milk to bring out the chocolate flavor.)
The news will no doubt add momentum to the 23-year old’s Eurovision bid. Although the bookies overwhelmingly favor Norway’s Alexander Rybak, Turkey is currently listed third after Norway and Greece among most oddsmakers—and she’s narrowing the odds by the day. What does she have going for her?
First, Turkey is guaranteed votes in Western Europe (1) because of the large Turkish population in Germany and (2) because of Hadise’s roots in Belgium.
Second, and even more importantly, Hadise continues to dominate the online poll here on Wiwi Bloggs, amassing a commanding lead with more than 40% of all votes.
Third, Greece’s Sakis Rouvas, who has influence among millions of voters throughout the Balkans, has endorsed Hadise’s song as his favorite Eurovision entry. “Hadise is simply genius and Dum Tek Tek is a great song,” the Greek icon told Turkey’s Sabah newspaper. “I want to perform a duet with Hadise.” (Watch video footage of Greece discussing Eurovision.) As you can see in the following video, the love appears to be mutual. Hadise performed at the Greek Eurovision Final in February and appealed to voters to choose Sakis Rouvas.
