Did Armenia’s Inga & Anush Borrow Their Tune From An Azeri Artist? 37
Armenia’s Inga & Anush Arshakyans, the sister act that placed tenth at Eurovision in 2009, have said that they wrote their sexy folk tune Jan Jan “in the genre of folk” and that they added “elements of contemporary music trends” to it. Translation? “We wrote it ourselves.” Azeri activists don’t buy it: they believe the song was blatantly stolen from Azeri folk artist Tofiq Quliyev.
In the video below you’ll hear Quliyev’s original tune played on an accordion, followed by selections from the sisters’ Jan Jan. The songs sound strikingly similar. Wiwi understands that artists use each other for inspiration all the time. . .but perhaps the sisters should have said thank you and acknowledged Quliyev’s original contribution. What do you guys think? Is this an example of musicians building on other musicians’ work, or have Inga & Inush gone too far?

Hey people..how can Armenia steal music from Azerbaijan? Why? For what reasons? Do u know anything about Armenian culture, Armenian musical heritage which comes from centuries ago? Armenia has a history of about 3000years. Why have i written this because nation which has such a long history cannot just plagiarize anything from a country which has neither its own culture, nor its own tradition. Azeri culture if it can be called culture is all based on Turkish. And you cannot argue on this guys!!!

I’m from Russia and 31 years old. I saw all what armenians did in Khojaly with my own eyes. Azeris are right armenias are really occupiers and people of azerbaijan were weaponless there.
