Iceland: Results of Semi-Final #2 4
Yohanna, the Icelander who most resembles Scarlett Johansson, managed to place second at Eurovision in 2008 despite performing before a creepy Scientology-inspired backdrop and wearing a dress made of dead blue birds. Apparently the island nation still has faith in the singer, as they voted her through the second semi-final of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, the Icelandic national selection contest, on Saturday. Her song “Nótt” (Night) never quite reaches the heights of her 2008 entry “Is It True?” But since Yohanna is a Eurovision icon, plenty of folks will want to send her to Düsseldorf anyway.
Matthías Matthíasson & Erla Björg Káradóttir took the second spot with their frightening rock-opera number “Eldgos” (Eruptions). Wiwi isn’t sure if the title refers to our favorite burping volcano Eyjafjallajökull or to the terrifying sounds spewing out of Erla while Matthias channels Satan. The two may have killed off a few species of bird this weekend.
