Dana International’s Dress Rehearsal—and the Angry Phone Call Afterwards 6

She may have won Eurovision back in 1998, but diva Dana International still has a lot of work to do if she plans to advance to the final in 2011.

Yesterday afternoon, during the first of three run-throughs ahead of tonight’s second semi-final, Dana tried to add a bit of movement to her act. She strutted down the arena’s mega-long runway and finished “Ding Dong” by panning to the camera on the island stage in the middle of the audience. It’s a bold move that draws attention to her sea monster-inspired gown designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. But not even a fashion statement paired with a catwalk will distract y’all from the lackluster vocals, mediocre song and rather bland staging. Have a look.

Snippet from the rehearsal:

After the rehearsal, Wiwi and Vebooboo spotted Dana outside of the press tent chewing someone out on her mobile phone. We didn’t want to get too close—when people spit acid it tends to burn—but we did film Dana from afar. Was her vocal coach telling her to stop deepthroating all those bananas? Or was a conservative member of parliament once again branding her as evil? (Yes, this actually happened in 1998). Either way, we’re glad we stayed out of the fire!
