Lena Meyer-Landrut: From Eurovision Darling to “Super-Bitch”? ¹⁰

The press center at Eurovision 2011 is abuzz with the news that Lena has turned into a total diva. Unlike the other contestants, she keeps bodyguards with her all the time, won’t let official photographers take her picture, and constantly tells journalists their questions are crazy. What a difference a year makes.

Yahoo Deutschland just released an article titled “Lena: From Darling to Super-Bitch?’ They include a video of the Eurovision champ with German TV veteran Frank Elstner. In it, Lena frequently dismisses her esteemed interviewer as ignorant, and interrupts him at every turn.

We admit that Frank wasn’t well prepared: he calls the Eurovision Song Contest the European Song Contest. But does that justify Lena’s behavior? Here’s a play-by-play for you non-German speakers out there:

0:12: Lena corrects Frank by saying ‘Eurovision. It’s called Eurovision.’

0:19: Asked if there were any other songs in the contest that she would liked to sing, she says ‘Nah!’ rather aggressively.

0:25: Frank starts to talk about how in the last two years everyone has been talking about her, and Lena interrupts to ask ‘In the last two years???’ before Frank explains that he’s counting each contest as a year.

1:10: Lena corrects Frank by saying that she won’t be standing in the middle of the stage but rather a bit in front of it.

1:30: Lena objects to Frank’s statement that she will be the ‘most alone person in the world’ during her performance, because she continues to insist that she will have her back-up dancers there.

2:00: Lena laughs at the suggestion that Stefan Raab is kind of like a Father to her.

2:05: Lena mockingly points out that the Esprit Arena is still a football stadium and then continues to mock Frank outside of his sight by demeaning the work of the “laborers” who transformed the stadium into a Eurovision arena. She concludes by sarcastically thanking the laborers who “did a good job.”

We hope Lena does not win tonight. Someone with this kind of attitude should not represent a united Europe for another year.
