F.Y.R. Macedonia: Kaliopi Chooses Macedonian Language, But International Producers 0

According to a famous Macedonian saying, “If you don’t have it within you, then get it from somewhere else.”

Okay, not really…but that’s the motto F.Y.R. Macedonia’s Eurovision delegation appears to have taken to heart. This morning the state broadcaster announced that it will outsource the management of the country’s Eurovision bid to an international producer.  After several failed attempts to qualify for the Grand Final, this may be precisely what the tiny nation needs to change its fate.  But the delegation isn’t looking to change everything.  For the fourth consecutive year, the country’s song will be in the Macedonian language.

While stating that they are open to sourcing the song from a foreigner, the Macedonian delegation expressed its commitment to treating their recent choice Kaliopi as a “complete artist.”  That means we may well hear the brunette bombshell sing a song she writes herself.  If that’s the case, then poor Kaliopi’s got a lot of work cut out for herself.  At today’s press conference, the girl didn’t even know what genre she was aiming for.  “I’m not sure yet whether to perform a strong ballad or an energetic song like the Tina Turner ones,” she said. “For sure, the song will be played in a modern way, with a folk feature”.

Wiwi and Vebooboo and Miss Meow Kitty wish Kaliopi and FYR Macedonia the best of luck gearing up for Eurovision.  You know what they say…5th time’s the charm!
