Junior Eurovision 2011: Child Stars Acting Seriously Grown-Up 2
Honestly, when did Junior Eurovision hit puberty? Wiwi was watching videos of the first rehearsals and he kept thinking that these kids are 14 going on 40.
It’s not just that they’re poised and can sing and can dance while wearing ridiculous costumes. It’s mostly that they’ve gone with Eric Saade-inspired dance songs. Rachel from the Netherlands may have a sweet face, but she’s dancing on metal rafters and singing about rebellion. Sweden’s Erik Rapp sings about loss: “Silly me, standing at your door, when nothing is like yesterday.” Is he 12 or 40? And Russia’s Katya Ryabova—the only returning Junior Eurovision contestant—is better put together than many of the adult train wrecks at the grown-up Eurovision. Do you see how she reigns over her backup dancers?
What do y’all think? Should kids act like kids, or do you prefer grown-up routines with very adult production teams? Check out the videos below, and be sure to watch all the contestants in action on our Junior Eurovision 2011 page. Our live blog of the final starts at 19:00 CET on Saturday.
