Melodifestivalen 2012: Second Semi-Final Preview and Prediction 0
Last week we watched in awe as Loreen blasted away her competition with her stuck-in-a-straight-jacket moves. This week, Wiwi and Vebooboo are in Gothenburg in person to witness what appears to be another relatively weak semi-final. The one-minute previews have been released, and here’s what Vebooboo thinks!
1. Ulrik Munther — “Soldiers”
Ulrik sings about “all that we’ve been through” and then declares himself a soldier. Um, dude is like 10 years old. You ain’t no martyr! If by pain he means having to settle for peppers on the Friday family pizza, then we understand where he’s coming from. The lyrics are bland, but his voice does shine through. Kid can sing! The slower song is quite different in a line-up filled with pop, so we think boo has a chance.
Prediction: Second Chance

The Top Cats might appeal to older voters
2. Top Cats — “Baby Doll”
Remember my comment last week about Thorsten Flinck and his voting population (the old folks with no phones)? Well, apparently those b*tches picked up their carrier pigeons and voted in big numbers. If the same is true in Gothenburg, then this sad Elvis impression could make it through. We sincerely hope their target demographic is overdrugged on their medications, though. I mean, dudes are relatively cute but do they seriously think this 60′s song has any chance of success at ESC?? I mean, seriously??
Prediction: OUT
3. Sonja Alden — “I din himmel”
Sonja’s romantic ballad is definitely making it through. She had success at MF 2007, finishing 6th and going on to reach 3rd in the Swedish pop charts with “For att du finns.” This year’s song is, like the rest of the songs, weaker than her earlier entry. But she dons a pretty long dress and crosses a bridge on-stage…and who could not vote for that?
Prediction: Direct to Globen
4. Andreas Lundstedt — “Aldrig Aldrig”
Andreas is better known for his role in the amazing group Alcazar, which has had a number of successful runs at MF. This song is cute, but we fear it will have the same fate as Magnus Carlsson’s memorable “Live Forever” in 2007. Andreas sings about his lover never coming back and learning not to hate him. We hope he can keep up that positive spirit when he doesn’t make it through tomorrow night.
Prediction: OUT

Timoteij: "Hi. We're hot."
5. Timoteij — “Stormande hav”
Second in a string of more upbeat songs, this one stands out as the most unique. Timoteij had huge success with “Kom” in 2010, and we’re glad to see the vixens back with their fake instruments and lecherous looks. We’d be very surprised if this song, about a stormy harbour doesn’t make it through.
Prediction: Direct to Globen
6. David Lindgren — “Shout it Out”
Um, I’ll do a lot more than put my hands up high and shout it out if I get a chance to meet David after his performance. Dude is smoking hot (and pictured at the top of this post), even if slightly awkward on stage. His song brings the Euroband into MF this year, and we can only hope it will appeal to the younger audience. Does it have any chance of success at ESC? No. But do we want to hear it again? YES!
Prediction: Second Chance
7. Mimi Oh — “Det går för långsamt”
Mimi sings about things going too slow, and she’s trying ruul ruul hard in this one-minute clip to copy everything about her compatriot Robyn. Unfortunately, we don’t think she has that X factor. Girl is pretty popular in Sweden, but as we saw with The Moniker last week that ain’t enough.
Prediction: OUT
8. Thomas Di Leva — “Ge aldrig upp”
After a series of faster songs, Thomas steps in and gives an inspirational message to never give up. Dude is cray cray. He looks like Merlin, but it just might work. I mean, give him a wand and he could use it to cast a spell on everyone.
Prediction: OUT
