David Lindgren and Ulrik Munther Advance to Melodifestivalen 2012 Final 1
We are half-way through the Melodifestivalen semi-finals, and while the quality is clearly sub-par compared to last year´s amazing field, tonight was fun and fab overall. Wiwi and I were in Göteborg for all the action—and we got down on it! Oh yes we did!
SVT may be pinching pennies this year, but they did things right with a cute opening act featuring the female hosts pretending to be part of a boy band. Sarah Dawn Finer ain’t exactly known for her physique, and it showed as she huffed and puffed her way through the number. Luckily no houses were blown down in the process.
Eight contestants were whittled down to five. Surprisingly Sonja Alden and HIV+ Andreas Lundstedt—both Melodifestivalen veterans—were sent home along with neon-coloured, Robyn-wannabe midget Mimi Oh.
After a few additional minutes of voting time (and thereby a bit more money for a better funded Melodifestivalen in 2013), Sverige had a ‘resultat’. Ulrik Munther, the 17-year-old teenage hearthrob (why we do not understand!) made it directly to Globen with his song “Solders.” After a bit of tension, Top Cats and Timoteij earned a right to battle it out in the Second Chance.
That left just two left — David Lindgren (“Shout It Out”), who by far received the loudest applause throughout the night, and Thomas di Leva, an androgynous and aged singer who was dressed as the leader of a religious cult. David won out and earned a spot in Stockholm, leaving di Leva to rue the day he decided to enter the contest.
Wiwi and I were dismayed that Ulrik make it through to Globen, especially since he looks like a mix between a tiny lesbian and Peter Pan. But those prejudices aside, we were ecstatic upon hearing David Lindgren’s name. First of all, he’s a hottie. But more importantly, his song is actually fun. And that lame description is a lot more than we can say about the rest of the songs we heard tonight.
David, we wish you luck in Stockholm. If you ever need some support, you can reach me on +44 7…. Any time, any day, I’ll be here for you. And I will take my clothes off and teach you how to “Shout It Out” for real….
