Sabina Babayeva—the stunning 26-year old singer representing Azerbaijan at ESC 2012—has unveiled her Eurovision entry “When the Music Dies. Konstantin Hudov, Sabina’s communications manager, described the song this way in an e-mail to WiwiBloggs.Com:
When the Music Dies is a dramatic love story with sincere expression of the strongest and most secret feelings of the singer. The tender yet intense melody is filled with bright emotional blasts that showcase and emphasize the great vocal skills, vocal intensity, and unique colourfulness of Sabina’s timbre.
Sabina’s team have given the ballad an Azeri soul: it was recorded with traditional Azeri instruments including the kamancha and balaban, and includes local percussion instruments like the davul and ghawal. Wiwi has no idea what these things are, but he’s glad Sabina is keeping it authentic in 2012. A number of Azeri musicians collaborated on the production, including Ogtay Sharifov, Sarkhan Vahabov, Shirzad Fataliyev, Yashar Bakhish and mugham legend Alim Gasimov. Stefan Örn and Sandra Bjurman—the team behind last year’s winner “Running Scared”—helped compose this number too.
The official music video launches on Monday March 19 on the website Eurovision.tv webpage and on the Azeri Eurovision site sabina.eurovisiontalents.com.
