Natalia Barbu, the beautiful singer from Moldova who placed 10th at Eurovision 2007, has a confession to make. More specifically, she has announced that she will contest the 2013 Romanian National Selection with the ballad “Confession.” She is the first artist in the race to represent Romania at Eurovision 2013.

Disillusioned with the new regulations of the Moldovan Eurovision committee, which stipulate that another singer may be chosen to perform the selected song, Natalia said at the end of 2012 that she would not participate on behalf of her native country. Then on January 3 of this year she announced that she would participate in the Romanian National Selection with “Confession”. The ballad, she says, has taken four months to write and produce, and was written with Malmö in mind.

The song is, well, a confession. Since she married a Romanian millionaire, Natalie has become a target of tabloids and gossip-mongers rather than an artist taken seriously. She aims to set the record straight with this song and hopes to finish higher than the 10th place finish she achieved with “Fight” in Helsinki.

Here’s what she had to say about “Confession” and her struggle with the media.

I have been harshly criticized and judged, during the last few years, for my relationship, while my music and work have stayed in the shadows. I have been judged because my love affair is different from other girls. My relationship was supposedly doomed from the start, but now, more than ever, I feel like an accomplished woman and mother. I know that my man is my soul mate, the person who will hold my hand to the end. He loves me for who I am, even though I am far from perfect.

What do you think? Do you buy Natalia’s “Confession”? And do you think that her song is a winner?

In order to be able to send a song for the Romanian selection she needs to have Romanian citizenship which I think she has already just like Catalin Josan and other singers from Moldova who tried to represent Romania for ESC.

I really like Natalia. I don’t know Romanian rules for national Eurovision contest, but I think her song, Confession, might be the winner. She is from Moldova, so she is Romanian, so good luck Natalia!

Well, there were Slovenian singers who were Toto Cutugno’s background singers. No rules about nationality, only rules like that are in JESC. No, I don’t think she’ll win.

Well, I really think this that the song is good. And I haven’t heard a good ballad in the romanian selection in good years. So, good luck to her and I hope she can sing live.

@Anca

Mandinga and Hotel FM are both ROMANIAN bands with international singers in their line-up but still ROMANIAN bands. Natalia Barbu is a Moldovan singer and she should compete in her country if she wants to win. If not, she is free to enter the Romanian competition.

alexander, Moldova was once part of Romania and we speak the same language, if they have sent a british guy ‘David Brian'(Hotel FM) and Cubanese singers(Mandinga), I am sure that Natalia has a big chance to represent us especially that she is a well known artist amongst the Romanian public and she also had some great Romanian hits broadcasted all over the radios and tv there.

She has no chance to win in Romania as they would never send a Moldovan artist to Eurovision, no matter how bad the other Romanian entries are. She is so naive if she thinks that she stands any chance in Bucharest.
