Amandine Bourgeois, 33, will represent France at Eurovision 2013 in Malmö. Le Parisien broke the news this afternoon.

Bourgeois won the sixth season of the French talent show Nouvelle Star in 2008. She landed a record deal with Sony shortly thereafter, but her two albums didn’t cause much of a stir. Le Parisian describes her as a “rocker.” That makes France’s choice an interesting one. The Netherlands announced that they would be sending a blonde rocker—a.k.a. Anouk— to Eurovision ages ago. Is it going to be a heavy metal throw down? As you can hear in the videos below, though, Amandine is very versatile.

Here’s her song “L’Homme de la Situation”:

If you talk about voice quality I prefer Anouk more, Amandine sings ok but has not the strong powervoice anouk has!

I checked out a few other performances and they were all rather middle of the road. A soft soul/rock direction seems most likely, but nothing really stands out as her main strength. As always, we await the song.
