Last year Valentina Monetta nearly got disqualified and she finished 14th in her semi-final. She later threw a tantrum at the Baku Airport over a cup of coffee. So naturally San Marino has decided to send her to Eurovision for a second year in a row. Forgive them: They only have 30,000 people.

SMTV, San Marino’s state broadcaster, made the announcement at a press conference this morning. It was live streamed on the Internet and we were totally shocked to see Miss Monetta in the hot seat. She’s grown a lot in the past year, and has replaced her bubble gum pop look with something decidedly edgier and more grown up. Behold Valentina in an asymmetrical black top.

Valentina really grew on us in Baku, as did her song “The Social Network“. We’re thrilled to welcome her back and hope that she can take San Marino to the final! Ralph Siegel will once again compose the song, but Mauro Balestri will write the lyrics. It’s not yet clear whether she’ll continue her social media angle by singing about Twitter or MySpace.

You can watch our interview with her from Eurovision in Concert by clicking here, and another interview with her from the London Eurovision party by clicking here.

Someone tell Ralph Siegel that he’s going to be outwitted, outdone and outclassed once again this year…

Could please Italy invade San Marino and we call it a night? I’m not looking at it once again.
