Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson will represent Iceland at Eurovision 2013 with the song “Ég á líf”. That means “I have a life”.

Eyþór also has a seriously boring song. Perhaps it’s the language barrier, but I just don’t get it. I’m curious to know if he is wearing blonde hair extensions, and whether he deliberately tried to look like Thomas G:Son, the man behind “Euphoria” and other hits. Can I get a side by side?

I’m hoping that producers can spice this up and that the singer will re-think his choreography. He looks like he is taking a poo at the two-minute mark, and that ain’t cute. What do you think of his song?

English lyrics / translation:

I AM ALIVE

I set out upon that long journey
I walked on lost and restless
Didn’t think about anything until the following day.
I chose peace and tranquility.
I am alive, I am alive
I glide above every hardship
I am alive, I am alive
When the winds turn against me

I climb over the high mountains
I am alive, I am alive
I didn’t understand about love, which can move everything
Didn’t dare to embrace and to simply exist
I felt like I didn’t deserve to open up my mind
And let the bright love enter within

I am alive, I am alive
I glide above every hardship
I am alive, I am alive
When the winds turn against me
I climb over the high mountains
I’m alive, I’m alive because of you

And I believe it
Yes I do believe it

Perhaps the wondrous gates of heaven will open
Beautiful love will flood out
to embrace me alone
I’m alive, I’m alive
I glide over every difficulty
I am alive, I am alive

When the winds turn against me
I climb over the high mountains
I am alive, I am alive because of you
I am alive, I am alive, I am alive

Where are the lyrics to this song? I know I can just go and find them on the net, but I came here from the main lyrics page, and all I find here is a G:son/Eyþór comparison …

You are wrong. The song is great. Eythor has a gorgeous voice. But it is not for the contest. This was not understood. This is one level higher than the Eurovision Song Contest.

The man’s beautiful, so the song isn’t great, I’ll forgive him.

There’s some doubt as to whether this will be translated from Icelandic to English.
Normally I’d be an advocate for original language, but in this case the meaning of the words seems to be the main selling point, and to be honest, I don’t find the Icelandic lyric aesthetically interesting anyway.
I think he’ll need to reach out on message to win people over. Assuming of course that the message touches people.

@Bogdan. The thought of him singing “I am cow” with the same earnest delivery was absolutely hilarious. I’m expecting someone to make that video any day now 😮
