There must be something in the air folks, cos the stars of Eurovision all seem to be feeling mighty charitable. Fresh on the heels of Doctor Gianluca’s public support of a cancer charity, Ukraine’s Gaitana has announced that she will be working with the United Nations Population Fund.

Ever since her Eurovision performance we’ve known that Gaitana is a generous soul – after all she did invite the whole population of Europe to be her guest. Well now she’s putting the sentiments behind those lyrics into action. In a video released on her official Youtube channel, Gaitana explains how she is collaborating with the United Nations Population Fund to raise awareness around the issue of teenage pregnancy, focusing in particular on education.

Gaitana is so dedicated to the cause that she is even incorporating the theme into her new song and video. Now I’m intrigued as to how she’ll do this. Most of her previous material is upbeat and lively, not exactly a good match for a subject as sombre as teenage pregnancy and it’s associated complications. My guess is she’ll follow the formula set by fellow diva Beyoncé, who released the single “I Was Here” for the United Nations World Humanitarian Day.

That said, Gaitana is a former Eurovision contestant- she’s liable to come up with anything.
