It’s mid August, which can mean only one thing – the juggernaut which is the X Factor will be returning to UK and Irish television screens very shortly. As always the rumour mills are in overdrive. By and large it’s the usual tabloid tat – Louis Walsh is planning to quit, Sharon Osbourne has been told to ease off on the rants, Gary Barlow has vowed to be even duller than last year… okay, I may have made the last one up but you get the drift. However, there’s one bit of gossip which has grabbed my attention. If certain reports are to be believed, former Pussycat Doll and current judge Nicole Scherzinger, is set to record a version of Zoe Alexis’ “Fire”.

For those of you who don’t remember “Fire” was one of the five songs which competed in “Eurosong 2013”, the Irish pre-selection show for Eurovision. Despite support from some famous names, including One Direction’s Niall Horan, Zoe lost out to Ryan Dolan, coming 4th with both the Irish public and Wiwi readers.

Personally, I’ve always felt that the song itself was very strong, but was let down by Zoe’s vocals. It would seem the big execs in L.A liked it too, as they pitched it to several high profile artists before choosing Nicole. According to the reports Nicole will record her interpretation of the song in the coming weeks, presumably before the X Factor live shows start. It’s certainly fits Nicole’s R&B/pop/dance style and who knows, maybe with a little production it could succeed “Don’t Hold Your Breath” to become her next mega hit.

It would certainly make an interesting companion piece to one of her other singles – “Wet”.

What do y’all think? Has “Fire” grown on you since the spring? Does it deserve a second chance? Or should it be consigned to pop history?

Fire’s a nice tune.. looking forward to seeing what Nicole will do with it. Maybe slow it down a bit and fill it in more with whatever seems to be missing.. Zoe’s voice is a bit tinny with it. Imagine if Nicole makes it chart all over the world & we’ll be like “omg it came from da eurosong!!!” xD
