“Top Model” season may be long over but that hasn’t stopped the male stars of Eurovision doing their best to try and grab our attention with their lovely bodies. Recently we’ve lusted over admired the likes of Josh Dubovie, Donny Montell and Tim Schou. Now you can add Lukas Plöchl, one half of Trackshittaz, to the list, as the Austrian rapper spends the bulk of his latest solo video lounging in a deck chair wearing nothing but shades and a pair of short shorts. Needless to say we don’t object.

Of course Wiwi readers are already well aware of Lukas’ hot bod, as are his fans on Facebook. But that’s enough about his body. After all, the music is the important part. Beauty is only skin deep but music nurtures the soul. Or that should be the case.  Unfortunately, I found “Am Meer” just a tad boring. The song suffers badly from its lack of a radio friendly chorus, while an additional vocalist wouldn’t have gone amiss. In a year which has seen an explosion of innovation within the hip hop genre at both a global and Eurovision level, from artists such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to Who See,  Lukas’ straight forward approach seems almost quaint and old fashioned.

Admittedly, some of my indifference may be down to a language barrier, since I don’t speak a word of German. That said, I was recently raving about Svetlana Loboda’s “Under the Ice [Remake]” and addicted to Marco Mengoni’s “Non Passerai” despite not understanding a word that was being sung. But enough with the negatives, Lukas has to be commended for continuing the trend of hot Eurovision men. And in fairness the video as a whole would appear to have some artistic merit and meaning (on a side note is there something about smashing fruit? Just that the axe and pineapple incident  isn’t the first case of fruit abuse we’ve seen lately).

Rating: 2/5

My mistake: Trackshittaz represented Austria in Baku last year not in Germany in 2011 … sorry for that. I couldn’t care less bout that shitty song in such a way that I find it hard to know in which year some of the worst songs were actually performed.

Actually this obscure tone matches perfectly with some of the core meanings of a more substancial perpection of hip hop: no cheesyness or bling blings with naked black girls and sex metaphors … it kinda goes along with the more dark musical tones of Jay Z, Kanye West or Drake, that is when these use the genre to say something worth listening that just making music for money. Lyricallywise this is a very bizarre song … but nonetheless it actually sounds better than the crap he did back in Germany two years ago. It’s just a shame that his body… Read more »
