WATCH: Croatia’s Severina Releases New Single Hurem

Turkey may not be our favorite country since the introduction of Turkeyvision, but it’s still great inspiration for Severina, the Croatian Eurovision representative from 2006. Despite being mired in the trauma of divorce, she took off her high heels and turned into golden Phoenix in music video for her new song Hurem. The song speaks of unrequited love and Hurem, the wife of Suleiman the Magnificent.

The love of Suleiman and Hurem  inspired the historical drama “Magnificent Century”, which is currently the most watched TV series both in Turkey and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. It’s also the most expensive series of its kind. Production costs topped 3.5 million dollars, and that doesn’t even include the palace fees which add an addition 2 million to the bill.

I made this song for my mum, who likes to watch ‘Magnificent Century’, and, of course, because of the good melody and text. Also, I wanted to say thanks to all of  my fans, who number more than half a million on Facebook. I’m happy to look forward together with you. .. and I look forward to the new concerts. I will premiere the song at a concert in Sarajevo’s Zetra. We have  the most beautiful spot of the area. The music video was made by my precious collaborator, the best video artist from these areas – Dorian Kolundzija who had worked the video production for my current tour. That’s what I call an explanation!

What’s even more interesting is that Andrej Babic wrote the lyrics and composed the melody for the song. Andrej previously penned entries for Croatia 2003, Bosnia & Herzegovina 2005, Slovenia 2007, Portugal 2008, Slovenia 2009 and Portugal 2012. He’s also been a regular at national selections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Belarus and Portugal. He also co-wrote ‘In my eternity’, which was one of the six songs for Sopho Nizharadze in Georgian national final in 2010.

Writing on his Facebook wall, Andrej had this to say: “Even when recording demos, I said this song has a strong female energy within itself and only Severina can make me  to believe her every word. I needed to gather a bit of courage and send it to her. The rest is the history. ”

Hurem is not his greatest master piece, considering the lyrics like this: “…The bed for two, but I sleep alone, as in the middle of  Ramadan fasting…” But it’s still pretty amaze.

Here’s the English-language translation of Severina’s new hit:
