Eurovizijos, the Lithuanian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, has been going on for two weeks now. Half of the 20 acts have been eliminated, including 2009 representative Sasha Song (yeah, there’s now G in his name), who gave us a quite remarkable performance of the 1988 winning song “Ne partez pas sans moi” from Celine Dion.
The 10 remaining acts
- Vilija Mataciunaite
- Vaidas Baumila
- Aiste Pilvelyte
- VIG Roses
- Justinas Lapatinskas
- Mia
- Martynas Kavaliauskas
- Monika Linkyte
- Ieva Zasimauskaite
- Kristina Radziukynaite
The selection process
Thus far contestants have been asked to perform covers of Eurovision songs. On the 4th and the 11th of January they will once again sing a cover, and one more contestant will be eliminated each week.
From the 18th of January, the eight remaining contestants will each own two different (and original) songs, for a total of 16 tunes. Between then and 1 February, one artist will be eliminated each week, along with two songs. On 8 February the five remaining artists will perform their 10 songs; one artist will be eliminated and one song will be chosen to represent Lithuania in Copenhagen. On 15 February, the four finalists will each perform the winning song and the artist will be chosen.
This might sound a little complicated, but the concept is quite simple. Lithuania wants to combine the best song with the best performer to create the perfect package to represent the country at Eurovision 2014.

Mike, yes. The song, which gets selected on 8th of February, will be performed by four artists in final and the best of them will get to represent Lithuania in Copenhagen.
So if I understand it: someone can “steal” another ones song in the final to go to ESC?
I think the ‘experts’ (for example the one from Sweden is not wellknown) not is right for judging Eurovision genre and eliminated good artist therefor
My favourites are Monika, Mia, and Aiste.
go mia!
