Songvakeppnin, Iceland’s national selection for Eurovision 2014, takes place at 20:45 CET this evening (you can watch it live here). If our readers have their way, then Gréta Mjöll Samúelsdóttir will win tonight’s final with her song “Eftir eitt lag”. She won our poll with nearly 36% of all votes, finishing well ahead of second-place finisher Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir, who earned 20%.

Are you feeling Gréta’s song? And did Gissur the opera star really deserve to come last?!

Interesting how these polls always predict someone to win and someone else completely different actually gets selected.

Is it bad that I think Iceland now have the best song so far in Eurovision?

I would’ve gone with Greta instead, and Pollaponk is rather inspired by the famous song “Centerfold,” but I could live with this. The song is fairly pleasant, actually. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up in my top 10 favorite songs or performances from this Eurovision, and I don’t mean to even say anything bad about the other songs either.

I give up. This contest will not have much decent music. First Switzerland, now Malta, now this. I hate all this folk and indie rock music. These men are shouting and their music is childish. Eleventh in the semi-final at best.

I’m counting on Latvia and Hungary to bring us decent songs now, but if I had to say anything to Iceland, I just want to say “Bring back Hera Björk!”

And 2 of the most cheesy and average songs in the set went forward to the superfinalist list. Awful choices but … this should teach us all a lesson: there is not point in making polls and expressing opinions about which songs should represent what country … because at the end of the day … we’re not the ones to choose … whatever national viewers and juries go for … it’s it. Deal with it. With this Iceland is not among my favs this year in Eurovision. See ya in 2015. 🙂

@Dhani: Speaks the Danish lunatic for a Greek FEMALE singer …. :S

I personally have to agree the girls DO have the best songs … it’s not their fault. It is what it is.

I would be fine with any of the top three, but Gréta is my favourite. I think this is the one poll I agree with 100%.

I’m sure Gissur will be placed higher as in our ranking. Actually I think he’ll win the National Final. But we’ll see what happens tonight 😛
