During the first semi-final of Dziesma 2014, Samanta Tina wore a wreath of flowers on her head. But that’s not all she did. She also won over a majority of our readers. The phone lines have closed and we can now reveal that the “Stay” singer has won our poll with nearly 22% of all votes!

Surely your support will give Samanta, who finished second last year, an extra boost. As she told wiwibloggs.com back in January: “It is a great feeling when lots of people are talking about me. That’s giving me more power and belief for the whole show.”

Katrine Lukins, a Swede of Latvian descent, came second with her song “You are the reason.” She earned more than 16% of all votes. When we interviewed her a few weeks ago she made it clear that she’s finding the entire Dziesma process rul, rul emotional. “The song is about love and Eurovision is full of love,” she said. “I feel the love and the power when I sing my song. It’s actually a very emotional song and I like singing it cause I get very emotional every time I sing it.”

Olga Rajecka came third with more than 11% of all votes. She’s an amazing singer and her song showcases Latvian folk music with a modern twist. If the singing doesn’t work out, she should consider entering Miss Latvia World. When she spoke with us recently she was ambassadrial with her answers: “I would love to see the Latvian language represented [at Eurovision], and to have the peace around the world, clean water, blue skies and every child with an ice cream in hand.” Amen!

Are the poll-takers deaf or something? This is one of the worst songs I’ve heard this year. And everyone hated it in Latvia (I was in Ventspils at the Dziesma 2014 concert); the public almost booed her off stage — they were calling Olga’s name, because everyone was upset that “Saule Riet” didn’t make the final. Olga or Dons were expected to win. If you count televoting and internet voting – Dons was Nr.1, Olga was Nr. 2. Samanta Whatshername, with this godawful song, was in the bottom 3. And Katrine Lukins has no musical talent AT ALL; she can’t… Read more »

@Z24

Oops. Sorry, I got my years mixed up.

Still, though, we need another Latvian-language song. And I see a 10-hour video in the future of the “heeey-ey-ey-ey-ey-eeeeeey-ey-ey-ey-ey-ey” at the end of the song.

2005 had “The War is Not Over”. 2004 was the non-qualifying latvian entry. But yeah, we need langauges. I don’t like Pedeja Vestule, but it’s still a quality entry.

I can see the Internet loving Saule Riet, akin to Epic Sax guy.

One thing is for sure, either eliminate Samanta Tina right now or give her the title. Runner-up third year in a row would be ridiculous.

I agree pretty much 100% with Z24 on this. Revelation, Saule riet, and Stay should be the top three here.

Please don’t pick Katrine Lukins, Latvia…

@Z24 I really hope that you were right about those two songs. We need a Latvian-language song in the competition again! They placed 5th with their only Latvian-language entry (2005) and yet sent a bunch of English-language songs afterward and placed poorly. They need to bring something unique to the competition, and the first Avicii-based song would be a great starting point. The based on the comments I’ve seen on several sites, including Wiwibloggs, “Saule riet” is mentioned quite frequently, but it seems to be everyone’s second or third favorite, never the first. I don’t know how many votes each… Read more »

Saule Riet, Stay or Revelation would really up Latvia’s game.

I heard that total televoting numbers in each semifinal had Saule Riet and Pedeja Vestule battling for the top.

If they don’t choose the most Latvian of their songs (Saule riet), or least a song in Latvian (Pedeja vestule), then the theme “Made In Latvia” would be really redundant.

Saulet Riet by far: It’s a good song, well built with an upbeat so different based on traditional folk. That is a good way to represent a country. The other two is just the same… could represent any country. And the songs and singers are not Ok. Olga SINGS

No, Dhani. The READERS chose the song. You’re an idiot

And, as usual wiwibloggs chooses the worst song of all for the 1st place. Samantha’s song really sucks!

I really think Katrine Lukins is the best choice for Latvia this year. If they send her, this will definitely be my favourite Latvian entry since 2005. Samanta Tina’s live performance is just not good and I doubt the juries will vote for her. They should have sent her last year with I Need A Hero and not with this one.
