YOHIO, glam rocker extraordinaire and a favourite of Swedish teens, is competing in his second straight Melodifestivalen final. Despite all the hype surrounding the event, he was as chillaxed and mellow as ever when we spoke with him ahead of his rehearsal in Friends Arena on Thursday afternoon. The first minute of this interview is basically inaudible—Panetoz is in the background making a whole lot of noise—but YOHIO still conveys plenty of insight about his style, his love of Asia, and his song “To the End”.

“It’s about universal love,” he says. “Everyone should be accepted for who they are.”

He also says that he feels more connected to “To the End” than he did to last year’s number “Heartbreak Hotel.”

“I prefer this year’s song because I’ve been more involved in the writing. I feel like ‘To The End’ is more my song.”

You can watch our interview with him above and re-live his semi-final performance below. Will you be cheering for YOHIO?

“To the End” lyrics

When the day breaks
and your heart aches
When you feel like
your soul is crying
Your head hurts
and your mind’s a blur
When you’re ready
to give up trying
You have to see through the dark
You will be loved, will be loved

To the end of the wo…rld
To the end of the unive…rse
You will be loved, will be loved
To the end of the ro..ad
in a place where the stars don’t shine
You will be loved, will be loved

When the day breaks
in this cold place
When you feel like
there’s something missing
Your head hurts
and your mind’s a blur
When you realize you’re second guessing
You will be loved, will be loved

To the end of the wo…rld
To the end of the unive…rse

You will be loved, will be loved
To the end of the ro…ad
In a place where the stars don’t shine
You will be loved, will be loved

Can you see me
Can you feel me
Can you hear me
I’m screaming for you
My head hurts
and my mind’s a blur
but I know that you’ll always be here

To the end of the world
To a place where the stars don’t shine
You will be loved, will be loved

To the end of the wo..rld
To the end of the unive..rse
To the end of the ro..ad
To a place where the stars
don’t shi..i..i..ne

Oho
You will be loved, will be loved
Be lo…ved
Be lo…………….ved

I think for this song he was aiming for more points from international juries. Last year, he came 1st on televotes and had 0 points off juries. This year was a risk. The song isn’t novelty enough but juries loved it. Hope he expands his music around Asia and the rest of the world.

Yohio’s moment was last year, when he was more the novelty, this year everybody’s looking at Sanna, Ace and Helena. I don’t think he’ll do as well as last year, but who knows? MF gives a lot of surprises…
