Back in October 2013 Samira Said, Morocco’s only ever Eurovision entrant, released her massive hit single “Mazal”. A whole 6 months and several World Music Award nominations later, she has finally unveiled the official video. In spite of the long wait, it is truly a wonder to behold.
The clip is all kinds of awesome and just like the song, it’s a glorious fusion of east meets west. One moment Samira channels an Arabian princess, the next she’s down a tunnel out sassing Beyoncé. She even betters Lady Gaga in the extravagant costume department, with the most eccentric ensemble consisting of shoulder-pads and heels made of candle wax. Needless to say, the candles are lit. And might I just remind you, Samira is in her 50s! I’d say even Madonna and Cher are envious.
Not only does “Mazal” cement Samira’s status as the “Diva of Arabic Music”, it also acts as a gentle smack in the face to the Eurovision world, which only awarded a lousy 7 points to her 1980 entry “Bitaqat Hub“. Surely one of the greatest injustices in the contest’s history.

I’ve just seen the comments below and they made me soooo happy cuz i didn’t think my country still belongs to the ESC family. I would be glad if Morocco ever comes back to the contest and i’m sure that we have a lot of talent just waiting to be exploited! Samira didn’t deserve her second-to-last placing but she sure made a big impression since a lot of people remember her, and she’s become one of the biggest stars in the arab world and this single -even if i don’t like it- is very succesful. Morocco would be very welcome in Eurovision! Same for other North-African countries, Kazachstan, Kosovo, Scotland and Liechtenstein… Hopefully one of this countries will be at the 60th Eurovision to start a new generation for countries!
