In a bid make to its mature entry “Coming Home” a bit more popular with young viewers, Malta’s Firelight will use selfies as a backdrop for their show, and you’re invited to submit yours!

It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, because the lyrics and video are far removed from the Oxford Word of the Year 2013, but it probably is a good idea to draw the viewers’ attention away from the song and onto themselves. Then, by voting for the Maltese entry, the self-obsessed will have the chance to shine on screens everywhere once again, in the Grand Final? In other words, “Vote for us and your mug will be seen by an even bigger audience, of 170 million people!” Sounds legit.

Mind you, you have to be at least 18 to enter AND your photo will then be judged and voted by internet users everywhere.

What do you think, is it a good idea? And will you submit your selfie for the chance to be seen judged by millions?

The WWI tribute theme, which came as a surprise as I first watched their video, was a bit of a hit below the belt but at least it may be held as honourable. This makes no sense whatsoever, sorry.

Turning the into Where’s Waldo? won’t make you have any more chances, which you don’t have.
