Sanna Nielsen has been busy designing her Eurovision lighting scheme and filming videos of her workout sessions. But she still managed to hit the studio to re-mster and record a final version of “Undo”, which dropped earlier today on Spotify.

Just one month before the contest begins, her lyrics guru Fredrik Kempe has listened to the critics and decided to change the song’s lyrics so they actually work in English. Rather than undoing her sad in the chorus, she’ll now be undoing her “sad love”. We’re so glad this clears up the issue of her SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

You can listen to the new and improved version here.

It’s amazing how one word can make such a big difference. Will that change help her win the contest in May? Which version of the song do you prefer?

You can read the new lyrics below. But first watch our interview with Sanna and get to know what the song means to her…

Undo lyrics / text

Silent I can´t wait here silent
Working up a storm inside my he..ad

Nothing I just stood for nothing
So I fell for every thing you sa…id
He..e.ar the ru..u.mble
Hear my..y voice

Silent I can’t wait here silent
Gotta make a change
And make some noi..se

U..u..u..ndo my..y sad
U..u..u..ndo what hurts so bad
U..u..u..ndo my..y pain
Gonna get out, through the rain
I know that I am over you
At last I know what I should do
U..u..u..ndo my sa…..a………d love

Trouble baby I’m in trouble
Every time I look into your eyes
Save me
Oh I’m gonna save me
Faraway from all the crazy li..es

He..e.ar the ru..u.mble
Hear my vo…ice

U..u..u..ndo my..y sad
U..u..u..ndo what hurts so bad
U..u..u..ndo my pain
Gonna get out, through the rain
I know that I am over you
At last I know what I should do
U..u..u..ndo my sa….a……..d

U..u..u..ndo my sad
U..u..u..ndo what hurts so bad
U..u..u..ndo my pain
Gonna get out, through the rain
I know that I am over you
At last I know what I should do
U..u..u..ndo my sa….a……..d

My sad love

What a piece of crap. This is the worst eurovision entry ever. Null points

I think only voters whose first language is English will care about this as it does sound daft in English either way. But I don’t think the rest of Europe will notice/care so don’t think it will affect their score very much.

I think this lyric change was great. “Undo my sad…Undo my sad love”. Its great. Song is now perfect and ready to take Top 3 in grand-finals!!

Methinks she should have left it the way it was. It got her to the ESC by only 2 points. You can’t afford to make a slight change like that, which could once again be the difference between winning and losing.

I find it alright, because I take this line as : “Undo my sad …”

Like Zach said – “… had no problem with “undo my sad” because in English what we mean is not always what we say so the lyrics made perfect sense to me “Undo my (sadness), Undo my (sad life) (sad love) (sad heart)…”

Sanna can sing whatever version, it’s still the best entry this year. 🙂

@D: Although I understand your point of view, you are mixing two different things. One is to claim you hate Sanna’s song and that you’d prefer Ace’s irreverent dance tune which is all fine … But another is not want Sweden to host the show for money reasons … if that is the case, then Sweden could consider not participating in Eurovision to avoid that kind of unflattering situation (it does take a huge money burden to host it) … and I guess that considering you don’t like Undo My Sad … you would not mind about it. But I… Read more »

How unfortunate that they caved in to silly internet criticism. Native English-speaker here, and I think “undo my sad” is a perfectly good, memorable lyric. It is the same kind of colloquial construction as saying “my bad” to mean “my error”, “the error is mine”, etc.) — an adjective is used as a noun.

“Undo my sad love” actually makes less sense than “undo my sad”. Disappointed.

This makes no difference to me whatsoever. Still think Ace should’ve won and still hope we don’t win as it’d cost way too much money to host another contest.

It’s actually a ridiculous fix. All it does is add some cheesiness to a fine song, and it only gets added in a couple places, leaving the “problem” essentially unchanged.

And what’s wrong with odd lyrics? It’s not like Sweden is the only country with them this year.

This is a mistake. She should perform the old version. “Undo my sad” is a very memorable lyric, in spite (or because) of the so-called mistake. Haven’t you guys heard of poetic license? The word “unbreak” doesn’t exist in English and yet “Unbreak My Heart” was a worldwide hit.

I also don’t like the new arrangement. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, Mr. Kempe.

This just sounds laughable. This is my proposal for new lyrics. I tried to keep them in time with the rest of the song so weird echoes and rushed syllables wouldn’t pop up. Enjoy. 🙂 Silent, I just stood there silent, ?Working up a storm inside my head.? Nothing, [all I knew was] nothing, ?So I [went with] everything you said. Hear the rumble. ?Hear my voice.?? Silent, I [won’t] wait here silent. ?Gotta make a change ?And make some noise Undo [this life.]? Undo [your perfect life.]? Undo [this love.] ?[You were foolish, now I’m done.] ?I know that… Read more »

Nothing that remarkably different … sounds very much the same with love or without love in the lyrics …

I actually really disappointed of this new version to me listening to it is kind of off. I as a native english speaker had no problem with “undo my sad” because in English what we mean is not always what we say so the lyrics made perfect sense to me “Undo my (sadness), Undo my (sad life) (sad love) (sad heart). Also English is an unregulated, very diverse language of dialects, no one dialect is better than the other. We don’t have a RAE or Académie française. So I see no real otherwise perceived reason to change the lyrics. Come… Read more »

Having followed the Scandinavian music scene (mostly Sweden) for almost 5 years now, I’m genuinely disappointed that this is what’s on the plate. If Kempe just tweaked the lyrics and changed “Undo my sad” to “Undo myself”, then it would sound a lot better. I love Sanna Nielsen as an artist, I have her album, but this is her moment to shine and she shouldn’t be singing a song with those kind of lyrics in front of 180+ million people worldwide. Kempe should have just stuck to the original version of the song (without that abomination “love” add on) or… Read more »

The lyrics “Undo my sad” are still there in the chorus. To be grammatically correct all the mentions of “sad” should be “sadness”. That would then stop the rhyme with bad, so meh.

The lyric change makes sense, but I feel it sounds like it isn’t supposed to be there. It just doesn’t flow as well in those parts as the old version. However, it’s an insignificant difference in comparison to how much it’s going to benefit Sanna in a months time.

So first Maria from Ukraine gets rid of his incestuous love between brother and sister and now Sanna makes a little, yet significant change so her lyrics make more sense… good move!

Swedes leave nothing to chance. You may think it’s just two words but I bet you A LOT of meetings and thought went into that!

It hardly makes a difference, but I preferred the old version. Also, the live version sounds better than the recorded version.
