Russia, Tolmachevy Sisters, 2

We haven’t heard much from Russia’s Tolmachevy Sisters since they were internally selected to sing for Russia with “Shine”. But at the recent Russia Eurovision Party in Moscow, we managed to film the gals practicing their song “Shine”. Their official video may have been done on a low budget, but these girls clearly have deep pockets. They were clad in matching Yves Saint Laurent Mondrian day dresses. Bling-bling, y’all!

Their song is really growing on us. It has an infectious quality. You hear it once and then it repeats in your head. Surely that will help them at Eurovision during the voting re-cap.

What do you think of their vocals? Do these Junior Eurovision winners still have it? Will you vote Russia at ESC?

I didn’t think much of Shine when I first heard it but I like it more every time I hear it. Now it is in my Top 10 & still climbing. If the twins deliver the vocals we hear in this clip, they should do well. I love this song.
(BTW their YSL dresses look beautiful.)

I think it’s a great song, although it seems to polarise opinion a bit. I do think the Russian version is way better though…the English translation of the lyrics makes the song a bit banal and twee. Would have been far more potent and brave sticking with the Russian version. I love it though…in my top 5 with Finland, Sweden, Netherlands and Switzerland. Honestly cannot understand all the fuss about the Armenia song…leaves me stone cold.

This year’s Russian entry leaves me indifferent. The only thing that stands out here are ugly dresses. Don’t wear them…

Their live voices are really good and to be honest I actually love the Russian song this year. It’s nice knowing the girls can sing well live too. Do I think Russia will win? Hell no. Do I think they’ll place in the Top 10? 50/50. But I do think they’ll be able to qualify considering the significant ex-Soviets in their semi-final and the fact that there are many much worse songs in there as well.

2 schoolgirls performing at school party? Junior Eurovision? No too bad for JESC.

@Thiefo, that’s right, they should’ve been more creative.
It might look cute if they were kids (although pedagogues don’t recommend parents to make their twins wear the same dresses as it brings self-identification issues in the future). I hope they will think something better in May.

@Rashad Well, it’s a practice that has been used often by many twins since forever, alongside the mirror moves, etc. I guess is to accentuate the fact they’re twins.. if that wasn’t obvious enough 😛
I don’t think is lame, just unoriginal, but it doesn’t bother me personally. I guess it would be better if they used different costumes that somehow complemented each other though, rather than being identical.

Do they have to wear the same outfits just because they’re twins? I mean it kinda looks lame.

awful song, off-key voices, and tacky dresses.

They sound really good live, although they should’ve done the harmony in the last chorus. I think the twin on our right is the better/more consistent vocalist.

I know it’s a bit weird, but they remind me of Cobie Smulders.

I’m surprised they sing really good Live, much better than the recorded version. I think they will do good in Eurovision with a good performance on stage.

They do sing very well, and the song is catchy. It’s just a pity the lyrics are so weak. It really does take away from the song,

I hope they get to the final, but the whole political situation will damage their chances of doing well.

It is a pity about the twins, for they are good. We all know this will go through, as well as we all expect it not to do very well on May 10.

Sounded heaps better in “na-pycckuu” (and they should really do something about their roots before Copenhagen).

I love their “De Stijl” style dresses and they can sing live pretty well, but the song is still horrible. but since this is russia it will still go to the finals.
