Late last night, after Romania closed the day with their second rehearsal, we sat down with Paula Seling and Ovi to chat about “Miracle”, their chances of topping their 2010 success and about that amazing hologram.
The Romanian duo was sweet as ever, because, as it turns out, they love WiwiBloggs.com. You should see their faces light up when we asked a question at the press conference (jump to the 11:17 mark):
At our interview, we first touched on Paula Seling’s leading our Eurovision Next Top Model Poll. As usual, Paula was very humble and the thanked her fans for the overwhelming support. We then moved on to the second rehearsal, where we saw her make the sign of the cross just before the first run-through. She confirmed that she is a religious person, who believes in the power of God, which lies in each happy coincidence. She even quoted Einstein!
Could the song be about a religious miracle, we wondered. Paula said that it’s about the miracle of love and life and that it can be indeed about any kind of “happy coincidence”. Ovi revealed to us that the song is intentionally generic because he wanted to reach a wider audience and he wished the lyrics to be easy to remember for the Eurovision English-speaking audience.
Ovi revealed that they were not 100% happy with the rehearsals (actually, he said they were 60% happy), that there were many tweaks to be made, and that they still had a lot of surprises in store for us. However, they both said that that they are very optimistic about the outcome and even hinted at a second hologram!
The Romanian duo agreed that they are more ready now for Eurovision success than they were back in 2010. Ovi in particular feels more confident about his singing, which we have to admit it shows.
Speaking of vocals, Paula also told us about how she protects her voice from the cold temperatures in Denmark (including in the arena!). She needs to sometimes cover her mouth with her hand, in order to prevent the cold air to come in and affect the vocal chords. Which, as we know, play an important part of the bridge of “Miracle”.
In the end, the two left a very sweet message for our readers (you!) and for their fans, asking them to remember to vote 15 on the 8th of May if they want “Miracle” to finally bring Eurovision to Bucharest.

I thought it was going to be Bucharest all the way up until Aram MP3 was selected. You literally have NO chances of winning it this year. ‘Miracle’ is a cheaply produced, tacky and corny song. ‘Playing With Fire’ however, was anthemic, powerful and was electrifying.
It will qualify. But it won’t do very well. 🙁 . Shame on you Romania, you’ve dashed my expectations for you guys.

Yes, they ARE adorable, adriana_gabriela… there is no denying! It would be unfair, though, in a year where we finally have so many “generally good songs” to have a “generic ESC song” to win, IMHO. What do you honestly think about that, as an “insider”?
Hmm, their song is not about just winning but a certain belongingness to audiences because the duo wants the people to remember that they, too, are part of the Eurovision icons. That must be how it goes for them.
