Dutch broadcaster AvroTros hasn’t even confirmed that The Netherlands will be in Austria in 2015, but Dutch Eurovision fans are already screaming for an artist, and his name is Dotan!

Dotan is a 28 year old singer born in Israel, but he has called The Netherlands home for nearly all of his life. He started his career singing for charity. He garnered attention in 2010 because of his single ”This town”, which climbed to #29 on the Dutch charts. Here he is singing his hit live on the talk show DWDD:

After a few years under-the-radar, Dotan is back with an amazing new single ”Home”, which is poised to climb the charts too. Here he is singing live at the radio station which awarded him its “Serious Talent Award” back in 2010:

Dotan IIIIHe’s got the talent, but does he have the support of Dutch Eurovision pundits? Last week the hosts of DWDD were reminiscing over Eurovision and how great the Common Linnets were. Guests included Claudia de Breij (comedian, presenter, radio-dj and Eurovision fan) and Paul de Leeuw (presenter, artist and the guy who made the jokes about Sakis Rouvas on live TV when he was the Dutch spokesperson back in 2006). As a final question the host asked them which artist should go to Austria next year. The first name to come up was VanVelzen (Roel van Velzen). But after someone mentioned Dotan momemtum swung his way and it was clear to all of them that he is Holland’s man!

Fast forward to last night and we had the guilty pleasure of watching DWDD again. Dotan appeared on the show to sing his summer hit. The host said he had to ask Dotan one question before they could proceed: What does he think about participating at Eurovision? Dotan said that artists with quality songs can end up placing very high and that it would be an honour for him to participate if he were asked.

Dotan II

We think that Dotan could continue the good thing that the Netherlands has going.

Back in 2007, the Dutch audience lost its trust in Eurovision when Europe prevented ESC veteran Edsilia Rombley from reaching the final. Dutchies called the contest a circus for several years after that and people thought the nation should withdraw from the contest because The Netherlands would never again have a chance of winning.

But one year ago in Malmo everything changed: powerchick Anouk brought The Netherlands back to the finals and secured a 9th place finish with her beautiful song ‘Birds‘. That stirred Dutch Eurovision fans into believing again. And then a few weeks ago, when nobody believed in the Common Linnets (Ilse DeLange and Waylon), they finished as runners-up behind the beautiful Conchita Wurst!

Because of these two great finishes, Dutch people believe in Eurovision again. As our Belgian correspondent brilliantly wrote last week, The Netherlands found what it can offer Europe. We need to keep things simple and send pure, intimate and quality songs to Eurovision. One of the artists who could do that great is Dotan.

What do you think? Should The Netherlands ask Dotan to sing in Austria in 2015 or is it time for The Netherlands to try another direction? Let us know below!

Dotan would be a good option but would like to nominate Bo Saris with a song similar to this one: http://youtu.be/Br2EIkwbtmY

outstanding voice, overgrew his slighlty cocky behaviour and valuable quality addition to the circus…

@Ella: Alain Clark would be awesome! 😀 Also because he has a good name in Europe.

And, besides, I´d like to see something new too. I don´t know for sure if the juries will like WithinTemptation (look at them what they did with “Unbreakable” and “Live it Up”! and dj-stuff (Armin van Buuren) isn´t that populair at ESC (“Only Love Survives, Rise Up) doesn´t do that well at ESC… I like to see Miss Montreal too, but I don´t think she´ll do that because of the fact that she doesn´t like critism.

Didn’t know him until today, but I’m loving “Home”! If he indeed goes to Austria next year with a similar song I wouldn’t complain 😉

Armin Van Buuren may compose a great tune for the Netherlands, genre-wise the wheel of fortune may again stop on a dance Euphoria-like track after a folksy pop song and an over-the-top James Bond ballad.
I want a faroese artist (HEIDRIK or Eivor) for Denmark and Emiliana Torrini for Iceland

Within Temptation could change their minds after the results of the Common Linnets. Beside that, the singer of Within Temptation wouldn’t mind writing/composing a song for The Netherlands (at least that’s what she said last year). According to me Within Temptation is the only option for Dutch victory next year.

Dotan is Holland’s biggest talent in years. I am not sure if he will go to Eurovision but we have a big shot if he goes. Home is a great song and people seem to love him so that is very good. Anouk was also great.

I would love to see Within Temptation… they’re the only artists I know from the Netherlands, but I love their music to bits! They’d be a very likely #1 for me if they sent a song of their usual quality – it’s a shame to hear that they don’t seem to be interested.

I hope we could have someone as brave as Anouk in the UK. A big name, a great song, have some guts to do the Eurovision and successfully changed people’s preconception about Eurovision in The Netherlands, even Ilse de Lange said that she wanted to do Eurovision because of Anouk. I really love their efforts.

Just hope the UK will do the same, come on BBC!

@JulianaESC I think Within Temptation made very clear they don’t want to participate last years! Of course it’s all about the song they are singing, but the Lisa Lois and Delain would fit the stage great! I think we have to go for Ralf Mackenbach if we want the screaming instead of singing and the circus back to ESC, it will probably kill us in the semi, but that is my opinion..

Okay, his voice is great and his songs keep with the dark vibe of the Netherlands for the past two years. If he was the representative with a song like “Home”, I wouldn’t mind. However, I also think Lisa Lois with a song like “Silhouette” would be amazing. Just think of the stage performance. Also Ralf Mackenbach, he could get the teen girl/ gay vote. With a nice song like “Vandaag” and “Over You” he could do well. I also recommend Delain, their songs are beautiful. Also Within Temptation, but they have a theatre tour during Eurovision and no interest.… Read more »
