After the semi-finals, we asked our readers which non-qualifiers had suffered the greatest injustice by not making the finals of Eurovision 2014. According to the 1,800 readers who voted in our poll for the second semi-final, Mei Finegold was totally robbed.
From the moment we launched the poll, Mei sunk her teeth into first place and she didn’t let go. The result wasn’t surprising, since a lot of ESC fans, including our very own bloggers, were left shocked, horrified and disappointed by Israel’s elimination. Mei totally ‘slayed’ our poll by grabbing 46 percent of the votes. She’s one tough cookie. As we learned in Copenhagen, she went into labor shortly after warming up a crowd of 15,000. Nothing fazes this woman.
Can-Linn feat Kasey Smith finished as runners-up, with 573 votes or 31%. Tijana was the choice of 212 readers (11%), while Vilija (who did win something this ESC…) got the attention of 7% of our voters. Just as they did in their semi, Georgia’s The Shin and Mariko came last with their ‘Three Minutes to Earth’. At least they’re consistent…

I knew that we would see a great song not qualifying.
I thought could be Ireland (that vocals… ugh), but Israel? Pls, she was the best that night!
When they announced Finland, I was screaming for Israel, and them: Austria was in the Final.
Well, at least Finland, Switzerland and Slovenia came in to the final.

I felt that the total packaging of Mei’s performance was unpleasant because it looked shabby and disconnected in almost every aspect you can think of: It lacked in any concept or focal point, it never translated into something inviting with a display of bad sense of styling, questionable choreography, hesitant camera work and senseless direction. Mei not qualifying still mystifies me. She hada fantastic performance, and when you consider that Malta and Belarus qualified ahead of her… Oh, it just gives me a headache.
I had Israel in my picks to make the final. I also think the vocals for the Irish song were really bad in the semi final. In some parts – her vocals were drowned out by the backing music. I was chatting to someone online during the final – and I said during her performance – Ireland wouldnt make it.
I think half of the viewers are left scratching their heads when ever they find out that Israel is at Eurovision each year.
Israel could send Madonna, they wouldn’t make it to the final due to the political situation in the Middle East. People don’t vote for them.
israel had the BEST performance that day! I still don’t understand anything! Mei rocked the stage and were top5 material! And still, she got almost as much points as georgia wtf!!! I don’t get why Lithuania was 11th, with their horrible song!
Ireland is better than Israel & i don’t like Norway. Ireland is real winner for me 😉
If Wikipedia’s Eurovision 2015 page is correct, Israel might sit out next year’s contest.
She really deserved – both Israel and Ireland should have been in the final.
Israel was sensational, I was almost 100% certain that it would qualify. Ireland had a bad vocal performance but Ireland were definitely better than other countries which managed to qualify ahem* Belarus* ahem.
