I imagine that as Anna Rossinelli watched this year’s Eurovision hoedown she must have thought “WTF?” Back in 2011, Europe basically told her and her band-mates to *cough* folk off, awarding their classy ditty, “In Love For A While”, a paltry 19 points. Fast forward 3 years, and the continent couldn’t get enough of country-folk, with no less than 6 grand finalists offering songs inspired by the genre. Poor Anna was a pioneer without realising. At least she’s not bitter.

Of course regular readers will know that the group (Anna Rossinelli is both the lead singer and band name) have been coping just fine. Their comeback single, “Let It Go”, was one of our musical highlights of 2013, while the lead track from their “Marylou Two” album – “Shine In The Light” – was used as the official Swiss tv anthem for the Sochi Games. The second cut is “Head In The Sky”,  a move away from the populism of their last effort, towards something more personal.

Anna sings of a life where she can dream crazy fantasies “I got my head in the sky”, yet remain in touch with reality “feet on the floor”. And while some claimed that “Shine In The Light” had hidden pro-LGBT meanings, the messages here couldn’t be more overt, with both consumerism and celebrity culture feeling the brunt of Anna’s disdain “I don’t need a private jet or a date with Johnny Depp”.

As with all Rossinelli’s work, this is an aural pleasure. Her gravely vocals are seductive enough to cause even the most ardent “honkey tonk” haters to tap their toes. The rest of Europe may be hopping aboard the bandwagon, but Anna remains the queen of Euro-folk.

Anna Rossinelli – “Head In The Sky” Lyrics

I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
I got a pocket full of dreams, no I don’t need nothing more
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
No I don’t need nothing more

I don’t need no diamond rings
Or a man who buys me things
I don’t need no bling bling bling at all
I don’t drive a Chevrolet
Or a boat in St. Tropez
No I don’t need such a thing

I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
I got a pocket full of dreams, no I don’t need nothing more
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
No I don’t need nothing more

I don’t need a fancy car
Cause on my bike I’m fine so far
I’m already on my ride of life
I don’t need a private jet
Or a date with Johnny Depp
No I don’t need such a thing

I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
I got a pocket full of dreams, no I don’t need nothing more
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
No I don’t need nothing more

Eyes on the stars, feet on the ground
Eyes on the stars, feet on the ground

I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
I got a pocket full of dreams
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
No I don’t need nothing at all
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
I got a pocket full of dreams, no I don’t need nothing more
I got my head in the sky and my feet on the floor
No I don’t need nothing more…
I don’t need nothing at…
All…

I love her “Marylou” album! “Head in the Sky” is a catchy tune which would’ve done well in Eurovision!

Anna was unlucky back in 2011 but i must admit her then Eurovision entry was weak compared to her recent music.

Please she should do Eurovision again!!! I wish the Swiss TV would realise that Anna Rossinelli and her band are super talented and give them a second chance!
