Vienna’s annual Life Ball is Europe’s biggest charity show supporting AIDS research, prevention and treatment. The star-studded fundraising event took place over the weekend, and welcomed the world’s A-list, including celebrities like Ricky Martin, Leona Lewis, Courtney Love and former US president Bill Clinton. But one sleb stole the show: Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst!
Conchita performed her winning song “Rise Like A Phoenix” in front of Vienna’s City Hall. It was a remarkable performance on home turf, and a sign of Conchita’s own rise from underground burlesque performer to international superstar. “It’s a very special feeling for me, and I am extremely happy”, she said afterwards.
Jean Paul Gaultier, the famous designer, told reporters that Miss Wurst isn’t a fad. She’s here to stay: “Conchita is amazing, fantastic, the best of this year’s styling! I love her, she is the real thing.”
The mayor of Vienna was as effusive. “I want to thank Conchita Wurst. The message which we got from the Eurovision Song Contests represents a future we want to see.”

Last year, organisers raised 2.4 million euros during the event.

Brilliant performance
Conchita’s performance at the ball in Vienna was not nearly as powerful as the final for Eurovision Song Contest. She looked ravishing, as usual. She needs to give it all she has at each opportunity, because you never know who might be in the audience at any event. Could be that one break thru performance that will propel her to much greater heights. I love Conchita and want only the best for her. I can’t wait for her to come to the states and perform.
