1TV.ru has announced that Russia, the country behind some of Eurovision’s most historic entries, and the host of the most expensive edition of our favourite TV show back in 2009, will participate in Eurovision 2015. Yes, the immense country with the babushki and the fancy furs will thrill us yet again in Austria.

For a split second we were worried that we may not see Mother Russia at Eurovision. After all, just a month ago, inside B&W Hallerne, fans booed the daylights out of the Tolmachevy Sisters, no doubt a response to Russia‘s divisive politics and recent annexation of territory in Crimea. If we were treated like that on the international stage, we might be wary of coming to the party too.

But now all is right at Eurovision. Russia has not only confirmed its participation, but it has also revealed how its entry will be chosen. The Russian representative will be selected through the “Voice of Russia” (Golos, in Russian), the 3rd series of which is set to begin in September 2014.

Russia’s 2013 entrant, Dina Garipova, was also the “Golos” winner.

TV 1 will oversee the country’s participation.

Russia should be boycotted and banned from participating.
I hate that country.

Why wouldn’t they be participating? Of course there is a Russian double standard – politics and homophobia on one side and desperate need to national self-promotion on the other. Russia would never dare to loose the chance to be in a huge bigger-than-life arena to pretend for 3 minutes nothing is wrong in their own world … and after their 7th place this year we have actually validated their wish to still act as so. And EBU would never dare to loose their biggest slice of ratings cake 🙂 We can boo all we want, we can wave out LGBT… Read more »

@Darren: I can get that! 😛 But I liked the Dima Bilan songs, and strangely, I liked “Lost and Forgotten” too. Russia´s performance this year was very good. Before the live show I had them at place #25 or so, but then it raised up in my top after the live show ^^ I can get why you don´t like the Russian songs though 😛

I am glad Russia will be at ESC2015. ESC is about bringing Europe together.
Shine was one of my favourite songs this year.

@timselvision
Lyrically, Russia was just a pop cliche and was nothing really superior, plus the whole selection process from Russia this year felt rushed and unprofessional, because they left it so late to select a song. But, if you liked it, thats your opinion, just like my opinion is that Russia sends bullshit every year. And its not because I hate Russia as a country, I just hate their Eurovision enteries

Hi @Deven
facts are facts, they DO qualify every year regardless of song, where as Ireland, your example, has only qualified in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. We missed out in 2008, we were robbed in 2009 and now we missed out again in 2014, even though sometimes our song wasn’t the worst. whereas most of the time, I hate the Russian entries.

Actually I´m very happy with Russia participating next year. I like many of the Russians songs, so saying that they always qualify even if they send bullshit is just the biggest joke ever. It´s just because people hate Russia, and I don´t think that´s fair. They had an amazing song this year, in my opinion, and I even have them in my top 10. And look at Azerbaijan, everybody said that they were buying votes and always get in the top 10… Well, no. Azerbaijan always send good songs (ok, their worst entry was 2011´s), and top 10-worthy. And 22nd… Read more »

My friend and I were both pretty amazed. We didn’t thought about their confirmation that quickly after all these things that happened with the politics in Russia.

LOL Russia is a joke! firstly they bash Conchita and Eurovision and then they confirm their participation. Cowards! Of course they wouldn’t leave Eurovision. It’s one of the most watched shows, they get great results. At least Eurovision is a good tool to promote gay rights in Russia. Suck it Putin!

Hi Darren, How are you keeping? 🙂

I wouldn’t go saying that they qualify every year with a farting dog on stage because before we failed to qualify this year, people said that ”It’s Ireland, they’ll qualify. They always do.” with Ireland. The exact same thing happened with Turkey in 2011, Sweden in 2010 and Serbia in 2013.

And so we have our first qualified finalist for Eurovision 2015 also!
As regardless of how crap it is, Russia always qualify.

Uggh wish they would just withdraw, even for just 1 year. They take the fun out of Eurovision.

Dhani is right, Belarus confirmed after Russia, and maybe Alexander Rybak would come back with Belarus both only as a composer for their entry
