Chiara, a three-time Eurovision veteran and perhaps the biggest voice on the tiny island of Malta, joined the Eurovision party last month in Copenhagen. She took advantage of her visit by shooting a new music video during Malta’s Euroclub night. The song, titled Mermaid in Love, pays tribute to the city’s most notable landmark. The depressing lyrics capture the anguish of a tormented sea creature. “It’s the curse of my life,” she sings. “I’m a mermaid in love.”

Pollapönk, Iceland’s Eurovision 2014 group, posted the video on their official Youtube channel for all y’all to enjoy.

This is nothing like her three Eurovision songs. She is somber and sullen, and her voice emulates Lana Del Ray. She doesn’t belt-it-out as we’re accustomed to either. Sure, she’s breaking out of the ballad bubble and venturing into electropop, but why fix what ain’t broke?

Are you feeling the song? Or would you rather listen to the soundtrack of The Little Mermaid? “Part of your world” is our jam!

She DOES belt it out…and rather well, too!
