Emin Agalarov, the interval act during the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, was recently in Vienna singing for Miss Austria – and we don’t mean Conchita Wurst. Emin performed at the Miss Austria pageant, where Austria’s representative for the Miss Universe contest is selected.
Ever since he released the single “Miss America” in 2011, Emin has been a fixture on the international beauty pageant scene. In May 2013, Miss America Olivia Culpo, the winner of Miss Universe 2012, appeared in the video for Emin’s song “Amor”. Last November, at the Miss Universe contest in Moscow, Emin performed his song “In Another Life”. Miss Universe contestants also appear in the video for that song, as does Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss Universe contest. And before Miss Austria, Emin sang at the Miss Philippines contest in March this year.
Controversy erupted when officials chose Emin to sing during the interval at Eurovision 2012 in Baku: Emin’s father-in-law, Ilham Aliyev, is president of Azerbaijan, and his mother-in-law Mehriban Aliyeva headed the contest’s organising committee. Similarly, Emin’s appearance at the Miss Universe contest in Moscow raised some eyebrows as his family’s company Crocus Group organised the event. For Azerbaijan, 2013 was also the country’s debut at the Miss Universe contest. Maybe it’s the next international event that Azerbaijan wants to conquer? After all, the country would have no problem hosting it in the Crystal Hall arena where Eurovision was staged.
Apart from performing at beauty pageants, Emin has scored some major international successes. He released his seventh album Amor last year, and this year he won the award for the Best Performer from Azerbaijan at the World Music Awards, where he was also nominated for the best Male Artist and Best Live Act awards. He has secured record deals with Warner Music and Sony ATV Music Publishing, and last week iTunes USA featured the single “Amor” on its “What’s Hot” list.

He’s actually split up with the president’s daughter long ago. I was not really glad when he was feautured in the interval act of 2012’s show as I’m against the president’s corrupted policies. But I must admit, he’s a very good performer. My favorite song of his is Falling. He’s recently been working with a huge professional team. So it’s very soon to see him on bigger stages. Good luck!

his awards are staged and bought (nobody cares about the farce called world music awards) the performances at beauty pageants (dated event..) happened because of his connections as the article stated. it’s all about money and power.
