Dima “I do the world a service by being shirtless” Bilan has released the official music video for “Addicted to you”. Playing the same card from “Never Let You Go”, his second-place song from Eurovision 2006, and “Believe”, his winning song from 2008, Dima dissects love with a catchy hook and some soppy lyrics: “A moment of happiness, the world is going to spin/ We don’t need anything, only a house near a garden/ I’m gonna write spring, I’m gonna put together paints/ Red and pink and blue, oh my God, how beautiful you are!”
The video starts off with a bunch of children celebrating, and then mini-Dima (who looks like a prepubescent Justin Bieber) meets his girlfriend. The music video follows the couple’s life as impoverished children and well-off adults in parallel, including a pillow fight and their love of chickens and rabbits. The video tells the story of a childhood romance that helps each of them overcome difficult parents.
It’s a good song, even if it’s not a “my ovaries are exploding” song (despite the beard). I fear that Dima has plateaued creatively. His most recent videos and songs are beginning to sound and look interchangeable. If Dima wants to remain a Russian pop icon, he needs to do more than bounce around in his chair on The Voice and fill his Instagram account with pictures that make us sexually frustrated. He needs to expand and diversify. Dima dubstep, anyone?
