In the wake of the missile strike that killed all 298 passengers and crew on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, Eurovision legend Ruslana Lyzhychko has issued a musical rebuke. In the one-minute video, which you can watch below, she asks why people die. The answer, she suggests, is because of politicians who see people as insignificant pawns in their geopolitical posturing: “Why do innocent people die? Because of the mistakes of fainthearted politicians, Because of praying to their Gods, Because of thinking their dreams, Because of a will to be free and happy.”

Ruslana, an activist, humanitarian, and former Ukrainian MP, uploaded the video to her YouTube channel this afternoon. It’s a stirring rebuke, but also a moving tribute to the victims and her homeland.

Reports emerging from the region suggest that pro-Russian separatists, who used equipment they received from Russia, have dragged corpses through the dirt, and robbed and looted the crash site. Drunk guards are currently guarding the corpses.

In March the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama awarded Ruslana a “Woman of Courage” Award for her humanitarian efforts.

Ruslana on the Malaysia Airlines crash

Why do people die?
Because of the truth…
Because of seeing something and telling about it out loud…

Why do innocent people die?
Because of the mistakes of fainthearted politicians
Because of praying to their Gods
Because of thinking their dreams
Because of a will to be free and happy

Why do innocent people die?
Because of others avidity to have more power

Why do innocent people die?
Because of saving their faith despite forbiddance
Because of a will to fly
Because of loving to dream
Because of seeing…. The light!

Why do innocent people die?
Because nobody gave them a choice…… to live

She’s a real artist. She feels her social responsibilities as an artist. Good luck Ruslana.
BTW, I feel so sorry for the tragic accident. I can’t imagine how devastated their families are.

Whether or not Ukraine or Russia is responsible, it isn’t important right now. The thing that must be done ASAP is to let professional investigators in on the crash site (investigators who will most definitely not destroy any evidence). When the result from the black box is clear, then we can start pointing fingers. Just the thought of the separatists stealing from the victims and disrespectfully just hide bodies around, makes me furious. Man, all the events that’s going on in the world right now makes me wonder when the next World War will break out…

The layout of the lyrics make it look poetic.

Anyway, Ruslana is one of the strongest, most courageous women I have ever heard of. She is a fighter and no wonder she is idolized in the worldwide Eurovision fan club. In fact, Ruslana should become President of Ukraine. If you think Helena Paparizou is a survivor, think again. (Do you see what I did there?)

She is a TRUE WOMAN! It doesn’t matter the music taste, what she is singing and what she is doing makes her a TRUE WOMAN.

Having seen the uncensored photographs and video footage of the crash, including the bodies, there are no words to describe just how much in shock I am. My heart goes out to all the families and friends who lost a loved one on board MH17. I hope those responsible will be caught and prosecuted!!
