Turkey has officially and publicly declared that it will not participate in Eurovision 2015. TRT Haber reports the sad news this morning in a rather succint post: “Eurovision Statement from TRT: TRT General Manager Müdürü Sahin announced that Turkey will not participate in the contest.” We’re kind of gutted. But for now we’ll cheer ourselves up by watching the above GIF of Hadise over and over until they finally return to the contest.

Please note: If you read the TRT or CNNTurk article in Google Translate you will be misled into thinking that Turkey IS coming back. Our Turkish-language correspondents assure us that Google Translate isn’t working on this news item.

People like and follow Eurovision in Turkey. The decision not to participate has nothing to do with the political management or going back to dark ages! Turkey has the youngest population in Europe, they can not be transformed by any government’s political ambitions. The young population is well aware of everything about what politicians are trying to do, and capable of protecting their values despite the politicians. It was Eurovision’s unacceptable decision which lets certain countries to go to the final directly that caused the reaction from Turkey. What was the purpose of that bias? Was it not abnormal? And… Read more »

“Müdürü” is not the name. It means, “the manager of”. You took a part of the title and made it the man’s name… Bad writing, awful style, awful pedestrian English, and now this. But the most awful are your commenters. Hey, Iberian, can your country even afford to host Eurovision if you win?

:((( i miss them. They dont attend because of their dictator. There are a lot of ESC fans in Turkey. TRT doesn’t care their feelings, desires. I know a lot of Turkish fans that they came and watched the show in Malmö and Copenhagen. They don’t deserved this. I believe Turkey will come again and they will add more colour to the contest.

Turkey is now taking part in the ABU tv song festival. MAnGa is representing them this year.

If Azerbaijan debuts next year, I want to see Farid, Sabina or Eldar at ATSF.

The king of diaspora voting is gone again. But I should point out that this may very well mean more easy points for Azerbaijan, just like in 2011 when Turkey missed the final…

Maybe they will be like Austria? When Germany won, they were back (Neighbour), so when Azerbaijan wins again, we will see Turkey back in contest???

I won’t be surprised if they fail to broadcast it too. Turkey is going to back to the dark ages thanks to Erdogan and his lunatic policies.

Considering this is a song contest Eurovision and not a shake you boom boom and wave your hair hair Eurovision … and considering this is not a spoiled brat version of a junior Eurovision … having Turkey out again means only one thing to me:
“I got one less problem without you, I got one less problem without you, I got one less problem without you, I got one less one less proooobleeem …” LOOOL

@Timselvision, Russia 2011 got 138 points in final… It was jury’s fault.

On turesc.net (A Turkish Eurovision site) I saw an article about it 1 or 2 weeks ago. They said “We won’t participate in Eurovision next year.” but I didn’t believe this. But now, I see official news from TRT and I feel so bad now. I insult them. I thought it was wrong 🙁 Sorry guys. http://www.turesc.net/2014/08/turkiye-eurovision-2015-e-katilmayacak.html

By the way Eurovision isn’t Eurovision without Turkey, I think.

Bullshit, I always like Greek and Turkish songs xD

People who say that songs get topmarks because of diaspora / blockvoting should take a look at Russia/Turkey/Armenia 2011 and Ukraine 2005 / 2012 xD

Not surprised and quite happy about it. Turkey, like Greece, frequently get top ten spots not because of the actual song but their diaspora. The contest will continue to be somewhat fairer without them.

I won’t miss them.

Never really liked any of their songs and didn’t expect them to come back anyway. Still sad though.

Behaving the the brat child of the competition .. Can’t deal with the fact that bloc voting has somewhat been reduced .. Something that turkey relies heavily on ..
