With Conchita Wurst being the first drag artiste to win Eurovision, it’s not surprising that she would inspire others to follow in her fabulous footsteps. British diva La Voix is now making a bid to represent the UK in 2015 — and it seems she’s rather serious about it. The fiery redhead tweeted:

la-voix-tweet

How intriguing! La Voix was last seen as a semi-finalist on the 2014 series of Britain’s Got Talent, where she performed a show-stopping rendition of “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” with the London Gay Big Band.

Her BGT performance shows that La Voix can indeed hold a note, but without a big band, dancing boys and a nearby Simon Cowell to tease, would she have enough to make an impact on the big stage at the Stadthalle? La Voix’s team of supporters think so, with the #LaVoix4Eurovision hashtag getting a workout.

La Voix shares her name with Sweden’s 2009 entry, performed by Malena Ernman. But that might not be a good omen. “La Voix” placed 21st, Sweden’s second worst final placing ever.

What do y’all think of La Voix’s bid to represent the UK? Should the BBC follow in Austria’s footsteps and send La Voix to Vienna? Or would the UK be better going in a new direction for 2015?

@Deniz@TurkNL well you had a good comment, and Bledar Leka and MTD you both have said good enough comments so why not be kind enough to agree with one another, I know you can say what you want but it was like listening to two four year olds squabble over nothing. To be fair I have heard worse, much worse and if I’m honest, you had some good statistics. LEAPerse was correct. Even if there is a song, no, not the right time, or the right moment for her either

It’s too soon after Conchita. You’re not going to win by doing something along the same lines as the previous year’s winner. There were 16 years between Dana International and Austria 2014, so come back in 2030.

Hahahahahahhahahahha!!! MTD has a go at the Western Europeans, yet he’s from Germany! MTD, you’re hardly Eastern are you love, so calm down. As Bledar says, Azerbaijan don’t get mentioned in the news, nobody gives a remote fuck about Azerbaijan except Eurovision fans, and people who like European football who see Real Madrid’s football shirt and wonder if Azerbaijan is a finance company in Dubai or something. You probably also know this though, as you are Western as well you idiot. The fact is, during Eurovision 2012, a lot of horrendous shit that goes in there came to light. It… Read more »

There is SO much talented music in the uk, we never send it to Eurovision though…well that was until Molly!

We don’t need to copy gimmicks! Plus Conchita was RIDICULOUSLY talented and amazing and anyone that tried to copy will just look like total idiots.

The uk aren’t this stupid, it’s just someone trying to wind people up 🙂

@MTD: I haven’t actually heard Belarus ever being mentioned on the news, whilst Azerbaijan was only mentioned at Eurovision 2012. Russia and Azerbaijan may allow LGBT relationships but they are severely repressed. And as you say that the media in Ireland “brainwashes” us, I’m guessing that you’re not from Western Europe. Croatia allows co-habitational benefits for LGBT couples. Croatia was ranked 12th out of 49 countries on LGBT rights

@Bledar – bottom line, everyone is homophobic, but (as you live in Ireland) the mainstream media tells you that ONLY those mentioned countries (Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus) are the root of evil. Thank you for clarifying that you are so easily brainwashed. Well, they (RUS, BR, AZ), are also traditional/religious countries. And as I recall, RUS doesn’t ban gay relationships. You are clearly out of every tune – clearly brainwashed. Croatia recently changed their Constitution in order to define that the marriage is just among a man and a women, while Russia doesn’t have that. But, still, Russia is the evil… Read more »

@MTD: If you really must know I am originally from Albania but I live in Ireland, and I have lived in Ireland for 6 years. I know that people in Albania are extremely homophobic. Please don’t educate me about my country of origin. I was mainly referring to the governments of Belarus, Russia and Azerbaijan, which are homophobic and also dictatorships. In the case of Albania, Ukraine, Romania, Turkey, Latvia, their people are homophobic because they are religious and very conservative. As far as I know their governments do not make stances on homosexuality, but they are democracies. In that… Read more »

She’s talented, alright, but more as a straight-up drag act than a Eurovision act. She’d have to really do something out of the ordinary, including having an outstanding song, to do well. Conchita and Verka brought it, DQ did not. She would also have the problem of being a drag act in a year following a drag act winning. Look at how Tanja did for Estonia, and Cascada for Germany, with the comparisons to Euphoria; look at how Kasey Smith did with the song that had essentially the same chords as Only Teardrops did in the chorus. The televoters weren’t… Read more »

Comments here are embarrassing, no surprise. Getting ‘bored’ from ‘drag queens on eurovision’ .. Do you get bored from the underage girls with pushed up boobs singing pop songs for example? It’s just an ignorant statement to make and it shows your true colours. Call it homophobia if you will.

I will have to wait & hear the song but I don’t think a drag queen would win ESC2015. La Voix will only be seen as a desperate attempt to copy Conchita. If La Voix want to participate I suggest she waits until 2016 at the earliest.

Since Conchita wasn’t as stereotypically a “drag act” I could bear her, but since La Voix seems to be a very cliche stereotypical drag performer (with the over-the-top make-up, hair, etc.), I don’t know about it. I don’t find drag shows entertaining or anything but whatever floats your boat.

@MTD this is a democracy if you say so, but there is a way to go around saying things. Russia didn’t get booed for not liking Conchita, but they’re recent actions in Europe which SOME people felt the need to boo (Not saying I agree at all). She is not even my idol, I just respect her for doing that ’cause let’s face it not many people would do that. She has guts for what she believes in. @Bledar – I don’t wanna defend him/her (esc2015/bridge), but this is a DEMOCRACY! Why not this guy – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUX3_0KM7fc I can’t seem to understand you guys. Make up your mind! If you’re going to be democratic – be! Yeah MTD because everyone who loves eurovision is gay? I’m not gay/lesbian/bi and I watch it religiously ever year simply because I enjoy listening to other cultures. I have to admit when I saw Conchite I thought… What the! But her message was just beautiful, it doesn’t just apply to LGBT but tells everyone to be who they want to be, dedicated to anyone who believed in a future of peace and freedom! Btw your labelling of “it” is terrible.

Let it compete! Let Eurovision be branded as the “gayest European mainstream thing” at last! No more hiding in the closet, Eurovision! No more drama! Be gay and deal with it.

Eurovision long ago went down the drains, let this (Conchita, actually), be the start of its stupid journey down on the levels of gay-night-club-Saturday-evening-show.

Shame on you EBU, shame on you.

I don’t want La Voix to sing at Eurovision, for my country. I liked her on BGT, but she seems to want to cash in from the amazing legacy of Conchita. I think that the BBC should stay with BBC Introducing. But try with either a band or male artist. Since 2000, nine of the last 15 winners have been female soloists. We need either a bloke of band to be different. Normally alot of copying occurs the next year. Lets not fall in to that trap. esc2015/bridge – I so want you to try and defend yourself. Ella Henderson isn’t famous enough yet? She’s worked with some of the best producers and her debut single #1 has had almost 18 million hits to date on YouTube alone. Molly was perfect for us, but her style just ended up being to “Indie” and the final performance was bad. We shouldn’t see that as a defeat and go back to sending whatever the BBC gets offered without effort. I’m sure La Voix is a great person, but it’s not exactly the image the BBC wants if they want to be taken seriously again and “restore their winning ways” as… Read more »

This will not work again as La Voux, if chosen will clearly be compared to Conchita. An attempt to copy last years winner never works out and just ends up looking cheap and tacky! United Kingdom should pick Ella Henderson for ESC, she’s super talented and not yet famous enough to not take part

No. I like La Voix, she’s charming and she does have some talent (though not as much as Conchita), but if she went to Eurovision 2015 for the UK, it wouldn’t be fair to her above all, as she wouldn’t get a fair shot at it – people would just see it as a vote- and popularity-grab attempt. (Which is unfortunate, as it shouldn’t MATTER if a drag queen goes to Eurovision the year immediately after a drag queen won, but that’s how it’s going to be.)

OMG hell no, it’s already clear that either the Netherlands or Sweden would’ve won if Conchita wasn’t a drag queen (I’m not attacking anyone with this btw, she admited this herself) and I don’t want another over-hyped drag queen. It would not only be overhyped, but also a clear copy from Austria this year. So, well… Just… Don’t. 🙂

And btw, was DQ from Denmark in 2007 also not a drag queen?

I think no. Because if we talk about vocal quality, Conchita still has better vocals than La Voix and lastly, people might just assume that the UK is trying to copy Austria in order to win next year’s Eurovision which could damage their support base outside of the UK and eventually the rankings.

As for La Voix, it’s LA Voix, not MISS Voix, as in THE Voix – again highlighting your ignorance and stupidty

La Voix is incredible performer, but the UK need not mimic what’s gone before and need to find their own direction
