Conchita Wurst has been busy working the LGBT parade circuit, appearing on television shows across Europe, modeling in fashion shows, and preparing for her upcoming performance at the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris. In between all that she has also been working on new music. The proof comes today with a 30-second preview of “My Lights”, which you can listen to on Amazon.de.
The song is actually a cover of a charity single released last year to support Austrian charity “Licht ins Dunkel”. Produced in conjunction with singer-songwriter Axel Wolph, “My Lights” has an expected release date of October 24. Judging from the lyrics we have heard so far, it builds on similar themes to Conchita’s winning Eurovision entry “Rise Like a Phoenix.” It is all about perseverance, optimism and moving on: “…lost track but today I’m going homewards/ I stand here with a fist full of your wishes, upright in the sunlight/ My lights are on, my lights are on/ The past is gone, the past is gone, My lights are on…”

It’s the “main theme” for Austrias biggest charity campaign called “Licht ins Dunkel” (“Light into darkness”) run by ORF / Austrian Broadcasting Corporation. The song was written by Singer/Songwriter Axel Wolph and every year there’s a new interpretation (here’s the 2013 clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl1gKRlIsSY) – this year’s version was sung by Conchita. It’s actually for an Austrian charity called “Licht ins Dunkel”. It’s a cover from last year’s version. And next year they will probably record it again with someone else. This year they choose Conchita. And what a perfect choice that is. Judging from those few seconds available so far, I already love this song in this version and can’t wait to buy it.
I guess we’ll have a new cover. It is a 2013 released song.
