On tonight’s “Så Mycket Bättre“, Eurovision legend and Schlager queen Carola Häggvist confesses that she had a physical relationship with another woman as a teenager. Carola says that she had a crush on her female friend, but apparently it was all about body contact: “The relationship was difficult, because I felt extreme attraction towards her and the feeling was very strong. Later I decided that our relationship could never become anything”.

Later on in an interview with Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, the super religious Carola said that even though she wasn’t sure if it was real love, she has often thought if it would be easier to date women.

Carola’s confession might sound weird for those who have followed her career in recent years. Back in 2002 Carola called homosexuals “unnatural” in an interview with Swedish gay magazine QX. Later she apologized in a public statement and said she has many gay friends and that she would never call them unnatural. She also stated that she doesn’t think homosexuality is a sickness.

One hand, maybe the reason she was so homophobic previously was because she had difficultly coming to terms with the fact that she was attracted to a girl at some point…on the other, maybe she’s just saying it in order to stop any further backlash from forming after the comment she said in the past.

It’s the case of the pot calling the kettle black or the case of the kettle smoking some pot…whatever, if Carola felt like getting it off her chest, the next logical and commercial thing she’s gonna do is write a song about it.
