Kazakhstan — long-rumoured to be contemplating a debut at Eurovision — has given us more reason to hope. Tonight Kazakh songstress Zhanar Dugalova won Türkvizyon 2014 with her song “Izin Korem”, easily seeing off competition from Tatarstan, Bashkortstan and Kyrgyzstan. Pan-Turkic stardom awaits….

Wearing a golden headpiece and dressed in black, she brought the drama (and lots of smoke). Her song mixed traditional Kazakh folk with some major tongue-twisting. A minute into the song she goes all modern and funky showing true versatility. This is entertaining and organic, we love!

Turkey, which set up Türkvizyon after withdrawing from Eurovision, came last.

I feel so bad… Very happy for the winner – but more happy for Turkey’s result. So… What completion will they set up next?

Her song is a combination of 80s pop beat and of course the Eastern European Turkish flavor to it!!! And the staging is just simply amazing!!! Her with the backing dancer and musician and the ghost cloth is just mesmerizing!!!

I’m loving the winning song! I certainly wouldn’t mind if countries like Kazakhstan ever join Eurovision if they’ll be sending songs like this.

Lets be honest now, that girl KNOWS how to sing, and to sing FAST. 🙂 Me like it. It’s Ruslana for God sake! 🙂

And some of the “Western” singers and their teams can use a little bit of learning on the topic “staging the song”. This Eastern Europe of ours (and Central Asia) has quite a talent. They should present it to the West. Nice.

A deserving winner. People are so rude about Turkvizyon-related things, but in reality it has good music and is doing just what ESC does, uniting cultures together. Only in Turkvizyon’s case it unites the variousTurkic countries and territories.

It was a fascinating programme, so thanks to wiwibloggs from bringing it to my attention. I was impressed by the variety of acts and styles. My own favourite was Bulgaria. Not so good was that it was clearly not a public vote and there was very little suspense when the result was announced.
