We talked about Lerika in our latest edition of the Wiwi Roundup, but we love her too much not to talk about her again! Now that the Czech Republic is back in the running for Eurovision 2015, we are super excited to hear who the bigwigs in Prague will pick for Vienna. We’ve already suggested six artists, but Lerika needs to be added to that list. Her awesome voice and style are totally worthy of the Eurovision stage!

Wait, isn’t Lerika Moldovan? Or Russian?

Lerika’s nationality is a little confusing, so let’s clear this up. She was born in Olomouc, a mid-sized city in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. However, she moved to Moldova at “a young age” to be closer to her grandma. Then, after her first appearance in JESC, she moved to Russia and became a national there.

So Lerika is Czech, in a sense. But isn’t she still, like, thirteen?

Nope! She’s actually fifteen as of now, but her April birthday will make her sixteen by the May deadline. In fact, she’s exactly a week older than Anita Simoncini, one half of San Marino’s duo for Vienna.

Okay, she’s Czech and old enough. But why her?

The most obvious answer is so that we can avoid this happening again:

But seriously, have y’all heard this girl? As our blogger and editor-in-chief William says, “Lerika is a woman in a sea of girls!”

She’s also extremely versatile. She can belt a ballad, too!

And she can rock it live! Check out this medley, which includes a cover of Sanna Nielsen’s “Undo“.

Do you think Lerika should sing for the Czech Republic?

Think about it, I don’t mind if Lerika represented the Czech Republic next year. She was born in the Czech Republic, despite her Russian nationality. However, since Lerika doesn’t speak English, the CT (Ceska televize) might have problems finding a song for her. And yes, she will be 16 next year. I suggest an entry from her in Czech language, and it would be a strong advantage for her to bring the Czech Republic to the final for the first time… in forever. What do you think? Should this young woman represent the Czech Republic after 5 years of absence?… Read more »

Lucie Vondrá?ková would be the perfect choice for the Czech Republic. 🙂

I don’t think Lerika would represent the Czech Republic. As she moved to Moldova when she was very young, she probably doesn’t really identify as a Czech person and would likely identify more as Moldovan or Russian. I’d love for her to represent either of those countries though. I’d want Lucie Vondrackova or Marketa Irglova to represent the Czech Republic.

Gabriela has an awesome voice. Only thing is that as far as I see she is only doing covers, an original song is totally different story. Lerika is obvious she wants in ESC would most probably be a decent entry but not standing out as a singer.
