Five acts are still in the race to sing for Georgia at Eurovision 2015. And among them is Edvard Meison, who is fielding this year’s only dance track, which certainly makes us move. Our Georgia correspondent Rezo Mamsikashvili recently caught up with Edvard. Edvard tells Rezo about the message of his song “We are Freee” and much more.

Hello Edvard! Congratulations on making the top 5 in Georgia. How do you feel?

I’m not satisfied with the performance from the song presentation. It was only at 20%. But I’ve received positive sympathy from foreign countries.

Could you tell us a bit about your song?Edvard Mesion 2

The song is about freedom. We fought a lot so that we might be free. We love one another and we need to avoid jealousy, so we can move forward. As we say in the song’s lyrics: ”Make love and no war”.

Why did you call the song ”We are freeeee” and not ”We are free”?

Because if you look at ”We are freeeee” it’s the focus of a long-term track. This may sound and seem….I’m joking of course.

Your song is the only dance song in the selection. Do you think it’s an advantage for you?

This song has strong text and a good arrangement. I made it from beginning to end in my studio, except for the text. The author of the text is Tako Vadachkoria. I think that 90% of people would listen to my song.

You took part in Georgia’s national selection in 2012 with the dance song “Hey You”. Will that experience help you this year?

Not at all. It’s the same. In 2012, me and Vanilla Cage with the song “Breaking the Cage”. We had been winning with foreign blogs. But none of them went to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Who is your favorite Eurovision contestant from Georgia?

Eldrine, because I am fan on Linkin Park and they’re working in a similar style.

Which Eurovision song do you like from all of Eurovision history?

I like ”Rise Like a Phoenix” by Conchita Wurst,”Euphoria” by Loreen,”Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak. I also like ”Shady Lady” by Ani Lorak, and ”Believe” by Dima Bilan. It was a great performance.

Nina Sublatti mentioned that many of the contestants are friends already. How does it feel competing against theEdvard Meison 1m?

Let’s begin. Misha Sulukhia is a great countertenor. Few people have such a voice. Nina Sublatti looks very original — super imagery. I think no one looks like this in Georgia. Eter Beriashvili performs her song very well, and she does it very professionally. She has a strong song. She participated in “The Voice” in Russia and it is not easy to get there. I like Band Niutone’s work.

We loved your Avicii cover. Who are the artists that you most admire?

Thanks. If you want the truth, I don’t like it. I recorded it in two minutes. I admire Freddie Mercury, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton and more.

You’ve worked in Kazakhstan. What were you doing there and what did you gain from the experience?

I was working at clubs. There were a lot of people from around the world. I realized what people like and I received a great experience.

You’re a music video maker and filmmaker. What kind of movies do you make?

I have taken more videos than movies. I took exams in movies.

Do you have a special message for your fans and followers on wiwibloggs?

Share and like my song. Even if you like other performers, don’t hate and dislike it. It is not right. Thanks to Europeans that love my song.

Thank you for the interview Edvard. Good luck!

This one is the only song from Georgia that I haven’t wanted to hear. What’s that of ‘freeeeeeeee’? Is he a stutter or what?
