In the past few months, Tim Schou has dominated Denmark’s Eurovision news. Rightly so! The former Friend In London frontman’s interview with wiwibloggs turned up the heat, and his pop ballad “Supernova” fanned the flames. His stint as Flounder in a stage production of The Little Mermaid provided the Eurovision 2011 star with an excuse to sport bright blue hair- and boy, did he rock it! The inferno looks set to continue into 2015 as he releases “Goodbye”.

Tim Schou – “Goodbye” Official Video

Tim is getting serious. He sings of an ex-lover and the painful breakup which ensued, with the song packing an emotional punch from the off – “I need a place for my words to hide, so I put them in this song…”. Like most of Tim’s self-written solo work, the theme is autobiographical, and brutally honest. It connects with listeners in a deep way, touching the sensitivities that emerge when relationships crumble.

Schou conveys the raw emotions with stellar vocals and the assistance of a gospel choir. When he croons “But if it’s really gone, and we’re really done, then why do I feel…”, you’re moved by the narrative, feeling his angst, passion, pain and regret in every word.

An exclusive invitation to watch Tim Schou's sound check.

The video does a great job of capturing the composition’s rawness. Shot over nine hours, it captures an uncut one-take version at the Østre Gasværk theatre. Tobias Følsgaard, the video director pulls in a few magic moments. However, there are instances when the one take concept is slightly over ambitious. That said, Tim’s emotions of loss, grief and woes remains noticeably intact throughout.

Rating: 4/5

Tim Schou “Goodbye” Lyrics

I need a place for my words to hide
so I put them in this song
here’s me whispering goodbye
farewell and so long

we lost the will in our hearts to fight
where did we go wrong
a silent whisper in the night
farewell and so long

This is so mad
this is so sad
that I’m giving up on you
after what we had I must be breaking bad
to be breaking up with you

The worst part about leaving you
is that I’m searching in the dark
is this the right thing for me to do
when everything I see is you

This is so mad
this is so sad
that I’m giving up on you
after what we had I must be breaking bad
to be breaking up with you

But if it’s really gone
and we’re really done
then why do I feel

that this is so mad
this is so sad
