In recent months there has been immense speculation that one of two people will sing for Russia at Eurovision 2015: Alexandra Vorobyova, the winner of “The Voice of Russia” final in December, and Sergey Lazarev, who placed fourth at Russia’s Eurovision selection in 2008. But there is actually one more name that plenty of Russian Eurofans have dripping off their tongue: Nargiz Zakirova.

Who is Nargiz Zakirova?

Nargiz has seen her popularity grow tremendously since she stepped on the stage of the second season of “The Voice” in Russia. If you listen to her blind audition of “Still Loving You”, you’ll understand why. She has an extraordinary look — shaved head, dreadlock ponytail, tattoos — but an even more extraordinary voice. It’s pure soul and power.

This is how Nargiz once described herself.

I do not associate myself with any subculture. My tattoo is a part of me. My shaved head is just some simple whim…I am just a person like everybody else. Despite these tattoos and this brutal appearance, I can also cry and laugh, be kind and be mean…Every time I go on stage I have a nervous trembling. The first thing I wish to myself is to be myself. When the spectator believes you, then it is a real success.

Her words suggest a kind soul. Indeed, the media and everyone else who has met Nargiz says that she is nice in real life. At her concerts she always emits a lot of energy and seems to enjoy what she does.

And outside of “The Voice”?

Nargiz was born in Uzbekistan in 1971. She first appeared on stage at the age of four, and has been performing ever since. She’s spent the past two decades in New York, singing in clubs and restaurants. Her success on “The Voice” has led to a lot of work within Russia, and she even represented Russia at the “White Nights of Saint Petersburg” international festival, where she won with the song “I am not yours” written by Maxim Fadeev. He’s the esteemed composer behind Russia’s 2004 and 2007 Eurovision songs.

Given her international experience and her familiarity with Fadeev, why not try her luck at Eurovision? She can definitely bring something fresh with her unique style and exceptional voice. Once you hear her, you can’t forget her.

What do you think? Would she be a good choice for Russia?

Nargiz is not Russian, she is from Uzbekistan , furthermore she is an American now, having said all that I have difficulties to believe that she will represent Russia in Eurovision, BUT WHICH EVER COUNTRY SHE WILL REPRESENT SHE WILL BE THE WINNER FOR SURE!

Sigrun, is it fixed idea? Putin doesn’t care about Eurovision. Yuri Aksyuta/Konstantin Ernst choose.

Yes she should absolutely! She’s very exciting. But would Putin ever be comfortable sending somebody that is so unconventional? I hope so.

Becca – You’ve said a lot of absurd and disgusting things on this site, but that has to be the worst. Still can’t decide if you’re a troll or just an idiot.

Sergey Lazarev or even better, Yaroslav Dronov. I was so sad that he didn’t win The Voice this year. :'( Watch this, the guy has everything: looks, charisma, voice, performance…he doesn’t need anyone else on stage to make it epic – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cjpE4IS2Jg&index=10&list=FL-ebqemTc2wwkcBq86kxNkA

beccaboo strikes again .. did you create these “guidelines” .. you need to get out more

No! Tattoos and a shaved head don’t meet the guidelines for a woman’s appearance. I’d prefer Lerika, despite being half-Moldovan! Lerika’s awesome voice and style could lead to Moscow 2016, with a hit like “Sensation” 🙂

She’d be an excellent choice. I absolutely am mesmerised by her voice. I feel like as though Russia have a top 10 result bagged anyway so if she represents Russia, maybe it will be a deserved top 10 result.

I like her. She has a beautiful voice, and she’s really weird. Russia needs someone who’s that out-there.
