After months of selections, judging rounds and finally one grand live show in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland have chosen their act for Eurovision 2015 – and it’s Mélanie René!

Die Grosse Entshcheidungsshow, hosted by Swiss TV personality Sven Epiney, featured the six finalists performing their songs as well as a cover version of another well known song. Voting was split 50-50 between an expert jury and a televote. The ten-person jury had representatives from all of the Swiss broadcasters and included Switzerland’s 2014 entrant Sebalter.

After performing “Time to Shine,” Mélanie  followed it up with a spine-tingling cover of Sia’s “Chandelier” that helped secure her victory over her five competitors, including pre-show favourites Timebelle.

RESULTS OF DIE GROSSE ENTSCHEDIUNGSSHOW 2015:

1. Mélanie René – “Time to Shine”

2. Timebelle – “Singing About Love”

3. Licia Chery – “Fly”

4. Andy McSean – “Hey Now”

5. Tiziana – “Only Human”

6. Deborah Bough – “Take Me Back to 23”

Also performing on stage was Conchita Wurst, the 2014 winner performing “Rise Like A Phoenix” once more.

What do you think of Mélanie’s victory? Do you think that Switzerland chose the right act? Or will they find themselves in trouble when it comes to the semi finals in Vienna? Let us know in the comments below!

@CookyMonsta

Switzerland haven’t been confirmed as performing last in the semi final , they are just showing last currently on Wikipedia as they are listed alphabetically. They drew the second half but they could be anywhere in the last half at the moment, that is only decided once all the songs are chosen.

not the worst entry ever
but it could have been Arbresha though
can we have a ban on including ‘Shine’ in an entry’s title? that goes for Cyprus’ Minus One too…

I am so happy that FINALLY Switzerland picked a Suisse romande, Francophone artist. Since their new national final debuted in 2011, the country always represented by German or Italian speaking singers and Carrousel was my biggest disappoinment ever in any national final. They are the real winner of 2013 at all. Well, about the song, I like trip hop and electronica but this song is still sounds like a demo – they should work on it and I believe that they will. Then I will have my final review. For now, as it is a demo, not a qualifier of… Read more »

Very beautiful song… I really like it a lot…! <3
Switzerland can qualify 4 sure to the final if her perfomance is good enough..
Good Luck to Melanie…I hope she shines indeed in Vienna.. 🙂

The Swiss probably didn’t choose Timebelle because the lead singer is from Romania…!

it isn’t horrible, but it won’t qualify in my honest opinion. The song itself is mediocre and it WON’T get any better; her vocals aren’t very impressive, and no matter how awesome the staging would be it would still be boring

I missed the final, but you won’t get any complaints from me. Of the 18 songs originally submitted to Die Große Entscheidungsshow, I picked her for 6th (2nd among the remaining 6). Licia was my 4th choice among the original 18 (1st choice among those left). Good news and bad news: The good news is that, with the exception of three performers, every contender who was the last to perform in the semifinals (be it a 1-day or 2-day event) has qualified; none have failed this decade… The bad news is, the last time a performer failed to qualify as… Read more »

Their selection was not bad at all, this song is actually quite well performed and on the big Stage in Vienna this might look quite spectacular, that is if they rework some of the melodies and parts…. So no major criticism just a little polishing up before their performance.

Yeah, I have to agree on this idea of a common theme – it seems like this kind of ballad and song subject are now the prototypical Eurovision song. I don’t really think Melanie’s going to stick out as far as the song goes. At least Switzerland is drawn second half. I agree that Switzerland should ditch the covers. The jury and televoters should be judging on the Eurovision song performance only. I’m still wondering how Timebelle didn’t win – great live performances, a very original and well-performed cover of Rude Boy… maybe the jury didn’t like them as much,… Read more »

I swear if she hadn’t sung Sia’s Chandelier, she wouldn’t have won. The song is so bad produced I can’t believe how tasteless Swiss people are. It’s a 0 from me.

Melanie is a great singer so I guess that’s why she won over the other competitors. However the best of this song is nothing special…might struggle to stand out from other competitors

I’m so sorry, but this is horrible. In my opinion it’s cheap, thin and really bad produced. I hope they’ll revamp it, otherwise it’ll be dead last for me. She has a great voice though.

I think Time to Shine is the best song.
Listening to the lyrics & watching Melanie’s performance in black leather, I am so glad the song wasn’t called “Warrior”. That theme is so boring now.

2nd time my favorite advances (Malta & Switzerland), and I only discovered the Switzerland song today!

Switzerland performs in the 2nd half of the 2nd semi final, I think it could advance to the final. My worry is the type of song kinda reminds me of Malta’s song (not saying it’s the same song, nope, not that) but in terms of flow.

Having sat through all 8 hours of the Expert Check auditions, Melanié René was definitely one of the stand out performers and she impressed me. So I’m happy for her to be representing Switzerland this year.

Well that’s a surprise. I preferred Timebelle but this is not so bad. I think it will grow on me as time goes on. But what’s the point of performing covers? I really don’t like when that is a part of National Finals.

Deborah was sexy, The woman from timebelle had a very nice voice, and Licia’s energy was amazing, Tiziana was very sweet, Andy had a very cool look, however the best song and stage performance was Melaniés, the perfect entry for Switzerland, glad they picked something totally different than last year or the year before.
