Switzerland’s Mélanie René deliverd some major soul with her R&B-esque song “Time to Shine” during Switzerland’s Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow. Her vocals were on point and we were jamming to her inspirational (but not cheesy) message. As she told us in a recent interview, the Time to Shine lyrics are “a constant reminder for me to stay true to who I am, and to what I believe in, even if it means having to walk alone sometimes. ‘Time to Shine’ is not about bling bling or glitter, but more about embracing who you are.” We can live with that.

What do you think of her song? You can listen it, along with a live performance, below. You can also read the lyrics.

Time to Shine lyrics — Mélanie René

I’ve been walking, in the darkness
Always hiding from my true self
Afraid of letting go, of deception in their eyes
A wounded ego, unafraid to start a fight

I’ve been walking, on a lonely road
For many stories, I have once been told
No matter what they say
I will follow my heart
I think it’s time for me to stand up
And hold my crown

‘Cause I’m living my dreams
Never been so alive
The sky’s the limit
now that I know I can fly
No more pulling me down, no more mucking around
I’m growing up, I’m growing up
And it’s my time to shine
Yeah, it’s my time to shine

It don’t matter if I’m wrong or right
I’m getting stronger every time
I try not to let it go
Take it one step at a time
I’ve made my ego, now it’s time for me to let it shine

‘Cause I’m living my dreams
The sky’s the limit
now that I know I can fly
No more pulling me down, no more mucking around
I’m growing up, I’m growing up
And it’s my time to shine
Yeah, it’s my time to shine

I’ve been walking, in the darkness
Always hiding from my true self
I’ve learned to let it go
I’ve learned to let it go
I’ve learned to let it go
Now it’s my time to shine

‘Cause I’m living my dreams
Never been so alive
The sky’s the limit
now that I know I can fly
No more pulling me down, no more mucking around
I’m growing up, I’m growing up
And it’s my time to shine
Yeah, it’s my time to shine

Melanie:
“I’ve been walking, in the darkness
Always hiding from my true self
I’ve learned to let it go
I’ve learned to let it go
I’ve learned to let it go
Now it’s my time to shine”

Uzari & Maimuna:
“Tell me where I belong
I’ve been trying for so long
Breaking out through the night
Made me see the bright light
Now I’m willing to fight
And I know that Time is on my side”

Sounds like we have another warrior going to Vienna. This one is the best of the bunch.

“Time”, “Shine” & a warrior attitude; this song combines the popular ESC themes.

I like this song a lot. Great choice, Switzerland.
