The house of Blue haven’t had it easy. They’ve had to fence off a lot negativity ranging from two-timing impressionable page three models to declarations of bankruptcy. In a bid to boost their image, they threw themselves into the world of reality television. Celebrity Big Brother, The Big Reunion, A Fly On The Wall Ibiza Documentary, Strictly Come Dancing- nothing was off-limits!

Now, they’re fully re-charged and making a musical comeback. “King Of The World” is the debut single from their fifth studio album, “Colours”. If this single is representative of what the album’s going to be, then fans are in for a real treat. “King Of The World” is a modern pop anthem with hues of vintage soul. Plus those harmonies are slick!

Simon Webbe helms this track confidently. Crafted for radio airplay, KOTW has the benefit of brewing with repeat listens. Unlike many middle of the road radio staples we hear today, “King Of The World” hasn’t been doused in autotune. We hear the boys individually on this, and appreciate their sound collectively as a group.

The simple music video reminds us why we’ve always lusted after them. In the first few frames, each band member throws down a fashion angle: it’s all effortlessly cool! Just like their new sound, the boys have flourished with age, whilst retaining their playful chemistry. In 2011, Blue made the United Kingdom proud at the Eurovision Song Contest. Now, they’re courting new fans with a brilliant mature sound.

Score: 4/5
