Back in December, Belarus made their decision and chose Uzari and Maimuna with their song “Time” to represent the country in Vienna. Since then, opinion on the song seems split: some people like it, some hate it. Certainly, in our favourite act polls, the song has usually appeared to be somewhere in the middle. But since their victory, the duo have been hard at work planning their staging and thinking about some possible changes to the song.

In an interview with Euroradio, Uzari and Maimuna laid out some more info on the song. “Time” is about the influence of time on our lives – that whilst not so many people notice it, a lot of things depend on time and that is shown in the song. Time is “like thunder”, striking so quickly and unexpectedly, so we should be aware of that and not to waste it. You can read the lyrics of the Belarussian entry here.

The duo also said that their song is at heart just a traditional Belarussian song. If it were to be played with traditional instruments then “you can see” that it is a real folk composition. Uzari said that “Time” can be seen as having many different styles and that people should take this song easier. Then in an interview with Zorika, both artists said that the song definitely has Scandinavian influences as well. Uzari previously used lots of Nordic influences in his performance of “Secret” in the National Selection for Eurovision 2013 so it looks like that’s making a come back.

As for the song’s staging, both Uzari and Maimuna have the same vision. Apparently there won’t be anything that doesn’t fit, like Burlesque theatre (sorry Dita von Teese!), but it will something stylish and neat. Maimuna has said though that she will be ready to do anything, even going ice-skating in a Dima Bilan throwback. We don’t know about y’all, but an ice skating violinist sounds amazing.

Are you excited about these little bits of info coming out of the duo? How do you imagine it on stage? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

I hope Maimuna will not be skating, ’cause she won’t be as good as Plushenko.. He’s won gold medal in Olimpics!! I prefer something Lindsey Stirling-ish.. I want their performance to be fantastic, cause they are my favourites for now.. I’m sad that Belarus is in first semi-final and Poland is in second cause I would totally vote for them.. Fingers crossed..

I don’t know, I thought the ice skater during Bilan’s performance in 2008 was awkward, I never liked it 😛

I know everybody is busy liking Georgia, Malta and The Netherlands at this stage, but my favourite remains Belarus so far, so I have high hopes for this song!

The idea of an ice-skating violinist sounds mythical.

As long as they don’t change the composition of the song too much! I love the violin and the techno beats, so I hope they keep that. I don’t know why people don’t like this song, but maybe with a good stage show it will find it’s place.

Who knows? Tastes of the audience are changing even for one or two months, judging from the place of Belarus in private tops on Youtube. But some progress for the better opinion of fans visible.
