Azerbaijan’s national broadcaster, Ictimai Television (ITV), has today confirmed that the country will choose it’s Eurovision 2015 act and song through an internal selection process. This will be only the second time they’ve selected internally since Arash and Aysel were chosen with “Always” in 2009.

Requirements

Artists

Anyone of Azerbaijani origin living in the country or abroad will need to fulfill the following requirements:

  • Basic information such as name, surname, date of birth, city of residence.
  • A video/audio recording or Youtube link of his/her/their performance.
  • Up to five photos of the participating artist.

Composers

  • Composers will need to provide songs audio, lyrics and basic information about themselves.
  • There are no nationality restrictions on songwriters who wish to submit the entries.

Artists and composers can send their applications to: [email protected]. Be quick though, as you have only one week to submit, with the deadline on 6 March. Azerbaijan’s representative and their song will be announced on 15 March.

In 2014, Dilara Kazimova won Azerbaijan’s national selection “Böyük Sehne”, whilst her song “Start A Fire” was selected internally. She went on to finish 22nd at Copenhagen with 33 points, becoming the first ever Azeri entry to finish outside the top 10.

Melissa, at least mgp and Romania started accepting entries months ago and are doing a proper process for it!!!

Haha!!! So the BBC takes its time announcing its accepting entries and months and months later we’re finally getting an announcement date, I assume this is to really be sure they have a good song.

Azerbaijan have like 2-3 weeks between starting to accept a song and announcing it. Are they taking the piss?! Have they given up after one bad result?? Hopefully they get what they deserve after such little effort.

On the other hand- the financial situation in Azerbaijan. It’s bad. Their precious oily manat has collapsed by almost 33,5% to $ and 30% to €. This happens simultaneously, along with the dropping oil prices. So maybe there is a chance for us to enjoy thier own esc production.. the second one. Who doesn’t know- the first and only Azeri entry was the ‘Day after Day’ (2008)

I’d love to hear something like “Always” again. I don’t know why everyone is so up in a flutter about “how late” they are. Seletica Nationala was really late last year, and MGP is in March now too. It’s not so weird.

@Eugene ESC UK don’t make me laugh.. Do you really think they are not ready? Pff.., they surely got signed already all needed agreements with the Swedish composer, songwriter, backvocalists, dancers, makeup artists, stage designers, video makers, pr managers etc. etc. As usual..
Can’t wait to hear another Swedish production))
My hopes about the azery one has died two years ago.

They’re late. Will they still qualify. Probably. I’d be shocked if they didn’t; but having announced this so late, I think it’s going to be a mess, and they’ll probably finish at the low end of the table again.

DiHaj would also be a great candidate. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UDHEX9JfNV4 She is amazing, but she sounds a bit too much for Eurovision.

I have a feeling that ITV will prefer local songwriters after last year’s failure.
Btw, I support the idea of having an interneal selection. When it’s public, many talented artists hesitate to compete considering their reputation.

I would love ITV to consider Rauf for 2015. https://youtube.com/watch?v=uvi_Kjpn0HE He’s a young artist with a very unique music style. He’s becoming popular these days in Azerbaijan. Anyway, I hope Itv will make the right decision.

This sounds very strange and fishy. There is only a week left to pick an artist and a song. I’m sure this is a way for Azerbaijan to say…look we had an “open door policy” when choosing an artist and a a song.

I think, like the UK, it’s time for Azerbaijan to send another upbeat song. 🙂

They should not had left this for so late…Anyway.. Azerbaijan’s entry last year was too underrated…I might had different opinion about how many songs of Azerbaijan in the past BUT *Start A Fire* was very beautiful song to underperform like the way it did….I did not expect Azerbaijan to do that bad especially in televoting..(!) and that was a big surprise 4 me.. Our most old euro Vision fan [105 years old] that passed away few weeks ago unfortunately that was the aunt grandma Ella from Germany LOVED the entries from Azerbaijan & had very friendly relations with the azerbaijani… Read more »

Interesting….hoping they send an upbeat song like “Always,” their ballads have consistently been good (except in 2014) but spice things up in this Balladvision 2015.
